Loyd, Snakes don't seem to be a problem here, and the only one we've put a "cat baffle" on was at my daughter's. She has a large, active cat who thinks he's a dog, but still chases birds occasionally. We put that one up a little late last spring, and the Tree Swallows appropriated it in less...

What have you been doing today?

I finished up a few Bluebird nest boxes this week. Two went to neighbors, one still looking for a spot. We’d been seeing Bluebirds checking out the box in our yard, now we’re having what looks to be the biggest snow of the season. Always hard to change from metal tolerances to wood tolerances...

Mastiff lc mason engine REDO .

Minh Thanh, That's about how I did it. I shortened up on the drill to make it stiffer, and I think that helped. Doug

Alan, Thanks for the pictures. I really like the riveted assemblies, both here and in the traction engine (wheels particularly). The track pads had to be a chore, but it all came out well. Do you make your hardware? Doug

Does anyone else write out your machining steps ahead of time? ML Midge Cylinder Head

When I'm done with plans (I work from a copy of course) the back of each page is filled with notes, and other things explaining to myself how I'm going to make those parts. Some is steps, some is DRO spacings/placement. They aren't quite as step by step as your photo above, but why not if it...

You could fit a restrictor if the 6mm carb turns out to be too big. I did that to make my carb work with propane.https://cdn.imagearchive.com/homemodelenginemachinist/data/attachments/93/93629-f5afb0331e659ac29e151098d797e8fc.jpg Doug

What have you been doing today?

Almega, I tried exactly that. I carefully centered in a 4 jaw chuck, supported the end with a pad on a live center and tried to turn away the excess. I don’t know if the tube wasn’t round or if it was flexible enough to deform in the chuck, but it cut some parts and missed others. It did reduce...

What have you been doing today?

I have used white-out and it worked ok. I didn't think this would be a problem and didn't consider using it. While something as a mask would have been a good idea, it cleaned up well but was more work than it had to be. Doug

What have you been doing today?

K2, I tried spinning another part and was not happy with the results. My lathe is just not set up for that. The tank is 1-1/2" copper plumbing pipe I found around the house. 1/16"wall, so 1-5/8" OD. I cut a piece from the tube, cut it in half, flattened and annealed it to make the end caps...

What have you been doing today?

I made a die and punch and squeeze d them in the vise they got out of order, but you get the idea. There is a ring of copper inside that makes the joint solid. ( A ring with enough cut out that it fits inside the tube snugly) I used the punch side in the lathe to trim off the wrinkled...

What have you been doing today?

It seems like a long time I've been working on a fuel tank and other peripherals for a 1902 Meriam-Abbott. (Another Doug Kelley model) Today I finally brazed the tank parts together. I'd been trying to make a tank with rounded or domed ends, and I like how it came out In the second picture, it...

I have just wrapped Kraft paper around the rings, then aluminum foil. That uses up the oxygen and is easy to clean out the ashes. Doug

I super glued the roller axles. The glue wicked through and stuck a couple of wheels. Epoxy is suggested, and that's probably why. As I remember there is very little space between the rocker arms once they are installed, so I had wondered about putting epoxy there. Doug
