    PM #1 steam ports

Hello all, I'm building a PM#1 steam engine, and am soon going to start on the cylinder casting. When looking at the drawing, I noticed that the slots for the steam ports are 3/32 & 3/16. I do not have a slot drill or end mill in either size, however, I do have a 3mm end mill and a 5mm. Will the...

How different in size can my flywheel be?

Hi there, I am currently working on a Quayle 16-16H steam engine, but I am having trouble sourcing a flywheel to fit the engine. Its a 16-bore x 16-stroke steam engine designed for making from bar stock. The drawings call for a 59mm steel flywheel. I have a cast iron flywheel a bit larger than...

Finding a good small cnc cad-cam milling machine in NZ.

If you're interested in doing a CNC conversion I've recently watch a series on a CNC conversion of a mill similar to my one from machinery house which I previously mentioned may be a good option for CNC. Here's the video series: The equivalent available in NZ is the HM48B, you'd probably want...

Finding a good small cnc cad-cam milling machine in NZ.

    1. to my knowledge there isn't much difference just different names 2. you will need some software on the computer controlling the machine, and some software to make your G-code. Mach3/Mach4 or linux CNC for the controlling machine, Fusion 360 for CAD/CAM is what ild recomend 3. in most cases...

in your opinon, what is the youngest age for someone to use a mamod or similar steam toy?

Maybe learn from his uncle and get a lathe for 15th birthday

in your opinon, what is the youngest age for someone to use a mamod or similar steam toy?

Definitely, when he's a bit older. I showed him around the workshop recently but he was too short to reach anything, let alone see what he is doing. He was just able to move the Z-axis on the lathe.

in your opinon, what is the youngest age for someone to use a mamod or similar steam toy?

Hello, I am thinking of building a toy steam traction engine, similar to a mamod for my nephew for one of his birthdays. I'm wondering what you think is the age where a kid could use one of them without (much) risking hurting themselves or damaging the toy.

can I use epoxy instead of loctite 609?

I'm making a small model steam engine and I need something to hold the crankshaft onto the crank plate and eccentric. I know normally you would use Loctite 609 but I can't seem to buy it anywhere and the only Loctite products I can find are quite expensive for what they are, so I was wondering...
