What is this used this for?

I have one of those in my desk, which I use regularly on UK OS maps to see how far we walked the dog - much quicker than measuring it out on Google Earth.

    Air pump

I run my Reeves 'Lady Stephanie', my Reeves 'Trojan' and my Kennion's 'Tina' on an airbrush compressor. The only problem I've had is keeping the pressure low enough to stop the engine racing, had to get a valve to go on the airbrush outlet to control it.

Removing pulley from a motor spindle

My father-in-law had this problem with the grub-screw on a Fobco Star motor pulley. He chopped-off the bent end of a new allen key, and silver-soldered the straight key into a hole drilled into the end of a bit of 3/4" round MS. He then cross-drilled a 1/2" hole in the other end of the MS for a...

    Boring bar height setting

I use a centre-height gauge I made 25 years ago, it's the first project in Geo. H. Thomas' "The Model Engineer's Workshop Manual". My version has three knife-edge holders, for use when placed on the lathe-ways, the saddle or the cross slide - in practice I find I rarely use it anywhere but on...

Aladdin's cave of machines to dispose of - help needed

I had a large-ish lathe (WWII-made Colchester Master) arrive unexpectedly from my late FiL's estate. It was in the back of SiL's horse trailer, having been put there by the removal men who were moving her to a new house. I lived in a quiet village street, and had no idea how I was going to get...

Which particular IPG tape did you use ? They seem to have rather a lot of different types.

    Struggle with 1/8” dies

Haven't seen it mentioned in this thread, but I find the best way to start a die is to turn a short extension to the piece to be threaded with a diameter of the root diameter of the thread. This helps hold the die straight and square as it starts cutting the full-sized portion. The extension can...

What have you been doing today?

I'm afraid I'm an English incomer, so I don't understand Welsh place-names. I'm in an (unpronouncably named) village near Lampeter.

What have you been doing today?

(Yesterday) Brewed 40 pints of IPA (from a kit). Made a new shelf for bottling same. Did a bit of 'make do and mend' to some dodgy fencing. Looked at 'Tina' and told myself I really ought to get back to a bit of machining - perhaps today ?

Injected Diesel 56cc 2 Stroke, Will it ever work?"

What's the difference between silver-brazing and silver-soldering (if any) ?

    Wind Powered Wood Water Pump

Sound and video OK for me too - using Firefox on Linux Mint. That pump is an impressive piece of engineering.

HELP, my shop is a MESS

One thing to remember about UK double sockets is that, although the individual sockets are rated at 13 amps, the double socket unit as a whole is rated at only 20 amps. I l.earned this the hard way (fan heater and oil radiator on same double socket), but fortunately limited the damage to just...

    For Sale Model Engineer Magazines

I had the same issue when I last moved house (downsizing). I gave mine (40 years of ME, MEW and EIM) to the local Model Engineering society so the members could trawl through them and pick up any issues they were missing.
