    Busy Bee/Craftex

Hi Bert, I have had a look at the new BB CX700 10x22 and was impressed. I own a King 10x22 and this is pretty much the same machine although the King is not variable speed. This is a very robust machine and with the vari drive and three year warranty on offer I don't think you can go wrong. It...

Lathe accident, Tool organizer, bad idea.

Thank you for bringing this accident to the groups attention. I have seen many photos of tooling shelves installed behind lathes and had that arrangement myself. I will be moving shop in the coming months and had planned on installing a similar arrangment but will defintley not, having read your...

    Lathe recommendations in Canada?

I have a Sherline long bed as well as the 10 X 22 I mentioned. I wouldn't go for the Busy Bee as it only has a 3/4 HP motor and I don't think you'll notice a huge improvement. The 10 X 20 at 1 HP has lots of power. On the other hand, Let me know if you don't but the Myford :)

    Lathe recommendations in Canada?

King Canada makes a nice 10 X 20 which is basically the same as the Grizzly G0602. Check out he latter's user group for details. Machine Tool Warehouse in Guelph is also carrying lathes of about the same size now. Finally Sherline and Taig are both readily available. Good Luck

So I'm buying some equipment, and would like anyones opinion!

Hi Blake, You can't go wrong with the Sherline as long as you are not planning to build anything too large. It is a surprisingly powerful and sturdy machine for its size and there are many great accessories available for the modeler. Cheers, Cole

    Cast Iron

I'm thinking about building a 2-stroke glow myself, for my next project, but what I've been pondering is- "Is cast Iron really necessary - unless the engine is going to see a lot of service perhaps not?". Cole

    Welcome!!

Thanks Bill - I did notice that but the only recent pic I have has two mugs, mine and one full of Guinness, which I thought might not be protocol with safety and all of that. We'll find something more suitable.

    Welcome!!

I've been monitoring this group for a while now and thought it was high time I made my presence known! I am a relative newcomer to our hobby having built Rudy's basic steam engine and Elmer's Open Column with Reverse. I am currently working on Elmer's Mill Engine but with a full time job and...

Comparison of between Unimat 3 and Sherline lathe wanted

Tmuir, I have owned a Sherline for about a year and a half now and am delighted with it's performance. As a beginner it is quite forgiving and has loads of accessories. It is easily converted to a mill with a vertical milling column, although there is a premium to be paid here versus buying a...
