    Mystery tool

As Akitene said, it IS part of a shoe 'expander' for stretching the width of a shoe. I have a couple, one with the wooden spreader that fits inside a shoe.

    Nalon Viper 2.5cc CI Engine

Not sure why you would need a 300x 40mm piece of Tufnol/Paxolin for an engine, is it for a disc valve? available in sheet form easily for a few pounds.

    Nalon Viper 2.5cc CI Engine

Thanks again chaps. When turning between centres, what's the best procedure? The first shaft got hot, expanded and bent ! (with a locked live centre). It's a 7 x 65mm shaft with a M6 thread, on a Colchester bantam. john

    Nalon Viper 2.5cc CI Engine

Thanks chaps, I have just made a shaft to convert a PAW 15 to a twinshaft, using (what I bought as EN24T) , I get a horrible finish, even using power feed and very light cuts. The first one got the (threaded end) bent during production between centres, this one is a bit better (in the four jaw...

Is it possible to make the crankshaft in two pieces? (say.... silver steel shaft and EN24T web) and also the crankpin from a needle roller? I hate making the interrupted cut on the lathe, thanks john

    PAW engine taper turning?

Thanks, yes there's plenty of info on the web and youtube but most seems to detail complex (for me) maths and using 1,2,3" blocks, not very relevant to a very short taper.

    PAW engine taper turning?

I ended up by putting the crankshaft in the lathe and swinging the cross-slide until a DTI runs up and down the taper without moving..... turned out at an 8 degree taper over 5/16".

    Bantam gears?

Thanks chaps, there didn't seem to be any adjustment possible except for the 'banjo', I just know it sounds different with every change of gearwheels for threadcutting, and wondered if there was a 'preferred' set up when not. (oops Jason, missed your belt conversion link with all these ad's...

    PAW engine taper turning?

PAW 15 (2.5cc) early diesel has a taper on the 1/4" crankshaft,..... How do I turn that internal taper for the prop driver? THANKS! john

    Bantam gears?

Thanks, I already have the set of changeable gears on the Bantam, they are cast iron. There is a seperate gearbox for the feeds.

    Bantam gears?

I have a Colchester Bantam lathe, I need to change the gearing for some thread cutting, all the gears churning around make for quite a noisy lathe, what is the best combination to use for a quiet life when not screwcutting? (retaining the power feeds). THANKS!
