    Arduino and the NewBee

Been there. Learning something new is frustrating some times. I pay my bills being a programmer, let me know if you need any help or have any doubt, i'll be glad to help. Are you doing this as a learning exercise? On the same Arduino route there are shields and software that could allow you to...

    Opposed Twin I.C.

Hi Brian, After reading your issues with the ignition coils, i've started experimenting with a few i got at home. I had a strong spark once i figured out the wiring. Your coil is a genuine Yamaha part (4h7-61). Those coils attach directly to the bike frame, needing battery ground on the metal...

    3D printed sand molds

Hi, I built something similar about a year ago. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:27794 I was hoping on using Portland cement as substrate with water on the printer head but it did not work as expected. The pieces where very fragile and not suitable for any use. Even removing them from the...

    Help needed with electronics questions.

Why not using stepper motors? (AND an arduino or pic micro controller) You won't need any switch, just some math to calculate the steps it need to move. You can even program the speed and direction to control both motor sequences. I can quickly write some code examples if you need. Norberto

    1/4 scale V8, first project.

Hi Keith, I've 'megasquirted' an old (1980!) Honda Accord a few years ago (and still running!) and found the same spark resistor issue you'r having right now. After months of lecture and head scratching, I end up installing an EDIS 4 ignition controled by the mega ECU. The RFI noise went away...

    Fun Furnace Picture

Thanks, I'll follow your recommendations. I'll build a crucible out of a 5 inch pipe, it should be OK to experiment and maybe cast a few ingots. If it work as expected, i'll go bigger! My wife yelling at me in 3, 2, 1.... Molten alum: priceless :)

    Fun Furnace Picture

Nice :) I'll give it a try. Should i configure the PID with any special setting? The oven already has a chinese PID controller but all the settings are for clay and go up to 1200C in a slow ramp. How much salt per alum Kg do you add? I've spend the last 3 years collecting alum from old...

I`ll start working on one of this soon, i have most of the components on hand. i`ll try to reach 3Kw, most of the machines i saw are of that power make stainless glow red hot in 30 seconds and can melt 200gm of aluminum without any hassle. Inductive heater for heat treating?

Hi, After reading a bit about induction heaters i`ve start thinking about using one to heat treat small parts or tools. http://www.rmcybernetics.com/projects/DIY_Devices/diy-induction-heater.htm Any of you did anything like it to heat treat or know how safe it is? Alibre tutorial

Hi, Thanks for the tips and links! I was thinking about alibre because i have access to a spare license from work but i think any cad software would be ok for my expectations. I have a couple of my own designs on paper and my goal is to model those in 3D as an exercise. (i figured out most of...
