The Kinner k-5 is ready for the first assembly I have bored holes through cam case into the crankcase to enable oil to transfer. all the cams are now fitted and timed. after first assembly I will strip clean fit piston rings and seal all joint faces. I will post more pictures when assembled

If you build the Kinner radial be aware of some mistakes on the drawings cross check mating parts, the rocker perch is the worsted example it is the wrong height and position, the mounting hole for it on the cylinder head is also not the best, you may need to change position and size to make it...

Done some more work on the Kinner this week bored some holes in the gear case to lubricate gears and cams also drilled extra holes in the con rods.

I still think your single wedge is good and i an going to try it, but i will put a clearance flat on the point not a radius because you need to measure the effective diameter, if it sits on the radius you will get a false reading.

When I was machining (on a lathe) in one of my jobs we used thread parallels, these are very similar to the wedge idea of yours, but you use a single wedge on top and a double wedge on the bottom these are very good to use and accurate, they are in sets. You put the pair together you are going...

I think this is a good way to measure threads if you use the actual o/d of your work piece, and grind a small flat on the wedge so it will contact the effective diameter and not the radius in the root of the thread. I will be trying this method next time i cut a thread.

I will have to look at putting some holes from the crankcase to the gearbox to let the oil vapour circulate.

Thankyou for your interest, I am still going to build without the oil pump but I am going to fit bronze bushes in all the conrods and improve the oil holes. If I do have problems with lubrication I will take your advise and fit the oil pump. Cheers Pete.

Did some thread milling today, anyone who is fortunate enough to have cnc milling it is very easy. I made a screw cutting tool out of a old 6 mm tap as the thread I cut was 1mm pitch. I ground all the tap away except for the last 2 threads on one flute, thus making a thread shaped fly cutter.

I am converting this one to glow plug so it will not need a oil pump or distributor, hoping it simplifies things.

I have been getting more machining done, I am now on cams and valve gear, I machined the cams on my small milling machine which i converted to cnc I get very good results. I am going to loctite all these parts together on assembly, this will make valve timing easy.(hope the loctite holds).
