    Next Project

Interesting thread... My spontaneous suggestions in the "British section" were mentioned already, the Napier Deltic and BRM V16. The "boat anchor" BRM H16 maybe... Italy: Ducati Desmo, I didn't think of that, but very interesting... My ideas would have been the Alfa Romeo Tipo B straight 8...

    Porsche 917 flat 12 engine

Being a fan of the team since I watched Prost vs Senna in 1990 at 10 years of age... Since then, following every season with interest. Have been at the test track in Fiorano in 2007 with my Formula Student team back then (we had to sign various contracts before, quite literally saying that if...

    Offenhauser Mighty Midget Racing engine

Hello... Nice, and very interesting project! It kind of reminds me very much of my own, the type 35 Bugatti engine... Only that I work on mine since 2013 (not continuously, of course, but there are a couple of 1000 hours into research (most of them) and CAD work). Based on my experiences, a...

    Porsche 917 flat 12 engine

Yes, the clutch / gearbox housing is wider on that side because of the starter motor which is located there.

    Porsche 917 flat 12 engine

I don't know, something at work yesterday reminded me of this thread... 🤔 (Though this is from a 908 I guess, not 917)

    Porsche 917 flat 12 engine

Wow, what a great project again! Seems like there was an 1:4 version of this engine (the later turbocharged one) made back in the '80ies, including mechanical fuel injection...

    Build a mini caterham

When looking for more "technical" CAD models, check out Grabcad. I remember that I did find some Caterham / Lotus / Locust / Super 7 related stuff there, but that was years ago. Just give the authors the credit they deserve ;) Regards, Jan

    270 Offy

Porsche "Fuhrmann" engines (4 cylinder horizontal opposed "Boxer", quad camshaft) used two bevel gear driven horizontal shafts to drive the lower camshafts of each cylinder bank, then two vertical shafts driving the upper camshaft from the lower one on each side. Besides it is not very trivial...

Bugatti straight 8 cylinder with blower, design, 3D printed molds, castings , machining, assembly

Hi Doug, and thank you for the kind words! Yes, with 1/4, things might become a bit tiny... 3 valves with a 15 mm bore - also the fasteners, a lot of M6 and M9 in this engine, which scale a bit better in 1/3. Design- and "re-engineering"-wise, things get interesting when you come to cylinders...

Bugatti straight 8 cylinder with blower, design, 3D printed molds, castings , machining, assembly

Hello! As a long-time lurker here, I just had to post finally when I saw another Bugatti project in the works... Really great so far, nice to see the CAD pictures, and waiting for further progress! I am working on a Type 35 engine myself, bit older and much smaller at 2 or 2.3 liters. In my...
