    Tormach 1100MX opinion

Hi all, I am seriously thinking about a Tormach 1100MX. I am self-taught hobby machinist. The only CNC experience I have is with 3D printing. I use Alibre for CAD designing. As with anything on the net, there the usual horror stories and the usual very positive fan boy stories. I don't...

Roy, What should the clearance be between the Hall sensor and the magnets on your ignition? Thanks, Jon

    Hodgson Radial - won't run

Roy, I have used AV100ll, regular pump gas and camp fuel. All with about the same result. The plugs that actually show ignition are usually black and sooty. The plugs that don't make ignition do show signs of fuel on them. I have the feeling I am not getting atomization of the fuel. I made your...

    Hodgson Radial - won't run

Yes Terry. The crankcase is vented through the front of the crankshaft, and I verified it is open. For now, the scavenge is running open to a collection jar Jon

    Hodgson Radial - won't run

My cap is Acetal from Mc Master. As I said earlier the spark passed right through the rotor to the shaft. So I bought some UHMW from them because the product detail said it had much higher dielectric strength and was an "excellent" insulator. So before I went to the work of making a new cap...

    Hodgson Radial - won't run

Hi Terry, Yes, I am using a Hall device from S/S, which is Roy Sholl. In a previous post in this thread, Roy suggested a modified distributor cap, basically a cap with no sides so that the rotor and contact are actually visible. This should leave no unwanted path for the spark to follow. I...

    Hodgson Radial - won't run

Roy, Thanks so much. I really like your visible distributor idea. I am on hold right now, waiting for a smaller carb, as advised earlier in this thread. Regards, Jon

    Hodgson Radial - won't run

Hi Roy, Thanks for your advice. We have talked on the phone a couple times recently. Regarding batteries, I have your 4 cell battery pack. If I remove one battery, do I need to put a jumper in place of the battery? Thanks, Jon

I have also tried a reduced gap, it seemed to help a little. I will wait until I get the Traxxas carb before I go on. Thanks Jon

    Hodgson Radial - won't run

I also had the same problem with the rotor. I removed the screws and glued the contact to the top of the rotor. On the bench I connected the High tension lead to the rotor contact and a 3/8" rod in the shaft hole, and the spark jumped right through. That's passing through .175" of acetal! I...
