    Smallest V12?

Hi, not sure whether this has been shown before. Somebody just e-mailed me it .. obviously it's excellent, but interested to see if anybody has the same thoughts as me! http://www.wimp.com/tiniestengine/

What's happened here? Loads of posts missing etc?

    New beam engine plans

Yeah it's a strange one! They're trying to market it as an executive toy ... guess the average exec doesn't have a compressor under his desk though :big: You're right, sacrilege to drive it with an electric motor though!!

    New beam engine plans

Hi all, don't know whether anybody is aware, a company in the UK is making and selling what looks like Gerry's engine! ... http://www.forest-classics.co.uk/bespoke_beam_engine.htm

    Poppin Double

Good idea to get the holes right Broc, that's one of those daft little things I struggled with!

Pacific Vapor Engine from Morrison & Marvin Castings

Hi Dave, Glad I found this project, looks a fantastic engine... something different to the norm. The castings look good but your machining even better! I have not seen white metal bearings done before either. We have an old car that needs an engine rebuild and has white metal big ends, will...

    My single cylinder engine

Nice work Borna, will be watching this one!

    Brian builds Atkinson Engine

Hi Brian, I use an HSS tool the same as I would use for brass, slightly rounded tip as you say and small top rake of a couple of degrees. If 350 rpm is your slowest speed you're right using that, would probably be better even slower. Nick

    Stuart No. 4 build

Yeah nice work with the steady, I sometimes support it with a tailstock centre and let the tap wrench come up against the cross slide but depends on whether the tap has a centre. Soft Jaws has definitely got to be the best way for cylinder covers and the like, I've never had any but they look...

    Running in a steam engine

Yeah you're right Brian, I was going to put the tables that linked the quantitative data in but it was taking ages to extract it from the PDF document I have! It is all there in the standard though. There may be copyright issues so I'll have to see if it's in the public domain. Good point...

    Running in a steam engine

I'll stick by my original opinion on this one. If the parts are made with correct clearances in the first place and lubricated properly, there wouldn't be any appreciable wear as there wouldn't be a great deal of metal to metal contact or friction. It's the manor in which plain bearings are...

    Materials for pistons

Good points there, I know some people also use cast iron with a very close fit which negates the need for any rings. Or could use a viton o ring with a close fitting cast iron piston too. Some people seem to be having good results using graphite pistons these days ... light, low coefficient of...

    6 cycle I C engine

Chuck, you're right I didn't notice the governor! ... Strange as you say, unless when the governor is disconnected he just wanted the engine to give a consistent hit but give a slower running engine with more revs between each hit.

    6 cycle I C engine

Hi Brian, there is a guy near me that is a bit of a genius with i.c. engines, unfortunately I don't know him as such but used to stand as a kid in the model tent memorised by his engines. He made an oscillating 6 cycle engine, I believe the gearing is just 1:3 instead of 1:2? It says it's a...

    Running in a steam engine

Hi all, I am not trying to be confrontational here but in all honesty I've never run an engine in yet, just taken care to build it with appropriate clearances, or in some cases larger than appropriate! :big:. Seriously though, I bet many people would be surprised how forgiving steam engines...

    5 Cylinder radial (winter's project)

Looks like I've found this too late but glad I did ... amazing work again George, can't wait to hear it.

    Stuart No. 4 build

Nice work on the castings Simon, just finding a few more projects to watch and haven't seen a Stuart No. 4 done before, keep up the good work.

    Inverted Hit n Miss engine

Know what you mean chuck, i've got a list of projects that keeps changing as I look on here and youtube, things get swapped around but unfortunately nothing seems to get started for me!

    Inverted Hit n Miss engine

Looks good Chuck, I was just thinking about possible designs for an inverted ic engine for my first one the other day ... Will be interesting to watch the rest of this. Nick
