For Sale Strictly IC magazines for sale

I have 23 Strictly IC magazines to sell as a complete lot, not individual issues. The list of issues is listed below. All in good shape, tho the cat did chew up the corner of one of them a little. Some have had the drawings removed to make copies of them, but all have been put back into place...

Sold Gnome rotary engine casting and ME series

HI, I don't need the plans set or casting but I am interested in the magazines. If you would consider selling those alone I would like to buy. Bob

    microcontrollers for the model engineer

And there was one other thing that did not work well for me in PBasic-trig. PBasic uses what are called binary radians (BRADS) in place if degrees, or real radians. Resolution was way off for anything of importance for me with this. I don't recall the numbers, but getting any accurate angular...

    microcontrollers for the model engineer

I've used the Stamp quite a lot and learned a lot quickly. Advantages are that PBasic is very easy to get going with as it is very straightforward to use, and as mentioned, Parallax does offer lots of sensors and things along with the software needed to run them. Disadvantages that have made me...

    Deals on Alibre

And Home Shop Machinist ran a series of 'how to' articles recently on using Onshape that might be of value for getting started.

    Machining hard steel

CBN tooling may work. I have found that even with pretty light cuts that the Dremel spindle at 1/8" diameter deflects quite a lot. Maybe not an issue if precision not required.

All Popular Mechanics issues are available for free on Google Books. There is no index or search mechanism that I have found so far, but they are arranged by year. Fun to look at, but be prepared to spend a lot of time there, lots of fun things to read. Bob...

    setting up for metal spinning

There was a 3 part series on metal spinning in The Home Shop Machinist magazine in 2002. I have the September/October issue and while the author has drawings for the tool post parts, the height aspect is not addressed in this issue. It might be talked about in the other 2 articles however. Back...

    Band saws

PS, I have not tried out the vertical arrangement yet. I added another set of holes to the fixed jaw of the vise so that it could be moved closer to the blade. The moveable jaw was adjustable so it did not need that mod.

    Band saws

I just got the Harbor Freight 4x6 band saw, and am very pleased with it so far. Right out of the box with no adjustments and the stock 14 TPI blade it has cut thru a bunch of steel (CRS 1.25" sq), some 3"x3"x .25" angle iron as well as some smaller aluminum flats. Cuts were square in both...

    Parting tool chatter

Here are some more pictures of the setup, in particular the alignment of the tool to the cross slide dovetail. If I had tried rotating the compound axis to be perpendicular to the lathe spindle I may not have had the chatter problems as the overhang that way is much, much less. But it is even...

    Parting tool chatter

Apprentice707, that pic was contrived as i am not doing any parting at the moment. I do lock the carriage and tighten up the gibs when doing this operation.

    Parting tool chatter

I have been frustrated by the cut off operation, but recently it has all changed for the better. I came across an idea for a tool holder and tool alignment on the lathe that has made this operation a dream! A YouTube video on the holder and one on cut off tool alignment are below, and I cannot...

    Allis-Chalmers lathe

My old company is closing down the local working site. Instead of offering to sell or give tools to employees, or getting the local auctioneer to take it off their hands, or donating it all to a school it is all going into dumpsters and hauled off to the dump. Even brand new leather cases to...

Autodesk Fusion 360 or other free software?

I was not aware of the ownership issue, I would be interested to see what is the legal basis of this statement. Certainly if I invent something using my employers tools then the idea belongs to them, but I don't think this is what you mean here regarding Onshape. Resources are always limited...

Autodesk Fusion 360 or other free software?

I've been using Onshape for awhile and the public aspect of my files has not been an issue in anyway for me. Other users can copy but not modify your files, and by doing a search on a particular item I've been able to find a number of pre-existing files that have saved me some real headaches...

Autodesk Fusion 360 or other free software?

I've been using Onshape for almost 2 years and am very pleased with it. It is parametric/solids and works pretty well, and is free. The company was bought up by PTC (the Pro/Engineer/Creo company) about 1 year ago and while my previous experiences with them were not the best so far all is ok...
