    G’day from Down Under

G'day from Sydney. Have you looked at EJ Winter ,Bolton Scale Models located in Bathurst NSW. They do a half scale Rosebery type A hit and miss casting kit. That is a great looking engine of Karl Benz. And it looks like a Bengs Karl above it. Peter

My next build--A cross beam vacuum engine

Hi Brian. I made a " Bengs Modellbau Big Nick" and had trouble getting it to run, it would try to run at times at best. This engine uses a rubber ball in the exhaust above the cylinder head. with trouble shooting I found the ball was bouncing on its seat and not sealing off reliably. I...

What is a Diesel Engine ?

A simple truth. Do you want the horrible smell of diesel fuel in your workshop. If I need to refuel a diesel car I make sure gloves are used. That oily crap lasts forever if you get it say on the steering wheel.

What is a Diesel Engine ?

A petrol (gasolene) engine usually atomises the fuel in the intake air (fuel air fine mist) via the carburetor and the spark plug ignites this to run. Kerosene needs to be vaporized for the spark to achieve similar fuel burn in the engine. Carburetor still supplies the fuel air mix and the...

    Valve timing

Your picture shows a 180 deg crank which means BOTH pistons are at TDC at the same time. 180 deg firing is not possible. Both cylinders firing at the same time is possible and would be fun to watch. 360 deg firing the more likely set up.

    Wanted Model generator, castings kit.

http://www.cringlemodelengineering.co.uk Darwenguy was posting here but seems to have dropped off. Last seen Dec 10 2022.

    Valve timing

As Bluejets stated, your picture shows both intake valves open at the same time. I have seen a horizontal opposed twin "2 stroke" outboard firing as a single but wait to see your crank photo.

    Stepper motor Alternator

Car alternators are designed to run at 600 Hz before the three phase A.C.is rectified to D.C. A car alternator can safely run at twice that speed it so it can generate 1200 Hz with no problems to the electrical system. That's good to know, I was worried my setup might cause a horrendous...

But what does it do?!?!? (Bring it on...)

Since post #26, I have been thinking about the price of fuel and reducing global warming ! So a smaller power plant has been installed.

Rosebery Type A, I.C. hit and miss engine.

I have now seen an actual full size engine that this model is scaled from. I noticed the 'big end' lubricator is actually mounted on the 'con rod' forward of the bearing, not overhanging at the rear as per model plans. I wish to reduce the risk of being "clobbered" at this area but finding it...

What have you been doing today?

Only had 151mm in my part of Sydney, but looks like being a wet night again. So sad for all the people under water AGAIN this year around Sydney.

    Stuart Triple new build

Nice. I look forward to this engines progress. The last crankshaft I cut came out of the heart of a piece of steel from a excavator link. Very subtle.

Hello Emers Just curious if a problem with the kit supplied crankshaft. As in post #6 Next major thing will be the crankshaft I have purchased some 1144 stress proof steel from the USA as I could not source it in Australia. You should be able to make good progress in a dry shop with weather...
