Vederstein Two Cylinder Double Acting Steam Engine

I just finished this engine. The plans were easy to follow. I was attracted to it because it suggested casting some of the parts myself. I also made a 3D print and casting of the engine block and used a sand core to fill the opening thus not such a massive casting. I had a little fun with the...

    Starting the hoglet

Facing the cam I used the cylinder to the right (farthest from the kick start gearing). I set i up like Bill said above and mine runs ok. Bill, someone told me that running retard timing will cause it to run hotter and that seems to be the case with mine anyway. Advanced timing will cause...

    Hoglet with Howell carburetor

Well I finally got the video posted. Mauro, I've used them before and they work good. I recently saw a video from Joe Pie where he turned a larger diameter down to a very small diameter in one pass. I used that method with my compound set at an angle to make the needles. This worked great...

    Hoglet with Howell carburetor

I tried to upload a video but it says not an allowed extension (mov). I converted to mp4 and it says the same. I'll try again after I've figured it out. Mark

    Hoglet with Howell carburetor

I'll post a video maybe tomorrow afternoon. I'm currently starting it with a drill. I made some cast iron gears for the kick start but they broke. I'm planning to make some more with brass. The cast iron I used was of poor quality. Also as a side note, I'm a Hoglet head specialist. I cast...

    Hoglet with Howell carburetor

Cogsy, thanks for your input. Yo set me on the right path with with too much fuel. I remade the needles and they made a big difference. The hoglet will idle and rev, but not to the very high rpm. I'm gonna play with it some more. But I am getting a response from the throttle and that's good...

    Hoglet with Howell carburetor

Thanks for your reply. I’ll give these suggestions a try this afternoon. I think I’ll remake the needles also because they’re so touchy. Thanks.

    Hoglet with Howell carburetor

I have completed my Hoglet engine along with the howell 2 jet carburetor. I'm running Coleman fuel with wd 40 added at the rate of 6 oz. per gallon. I've read several (all different) methods of setting up the Howell carb. I made the needles as per the drawing so they are stubbier than other...

Thanks Brian. I've seen that post and emailed Mr. Elias a couple of weeks ago but got no response. Thanks Mark

    Hoglet 4 lobe cam

Hi all, I am almost complete with my hoglet build and am trying to find any info on the 4 lobe cam option. I’ve read that some have obtained drawings but I can’t find anything on the net. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Mark

    Hoglet Cam Gear

Can anyone advise on how the cam gear attaches to the cam shaft on the Randall Cox Hoglet? I can't find any information in the text or the drawings. There's no set screw drawn, so I assume its loctited. Thanks for any suggestions. Mark
