    C section

Wesley, do you have "welding or fab" shops in the UK. I 24" piece of c iron is pretty much junk to most shops and they would typically sell it to you cheap. You may have to do like Jasonb suggested and buy square tubing and split it. I go by the salvage yard about once and month and see what...

    Must have set up tooling.

Loosenut, you may have the best idea. :o Jasonb, thanks for the insight on the little hogger's. I have a 1 1/2" indexable surfacing head and a set of fly cutters. Do you use your height gauge a lot? wla421- I only have a cheap 3" rotary table with a Sherline 3 jaw chuck mounted on it. I have...

    Central Machine Model 33686

Does the round column cause problems holding its center point if you have to raise or lower it during a job? Not trying to bash the machine, I just recall reading somewhere that was a problem with this type of mill. (I have never owned or used one, just read a lot when I was looking at a new...

Thanks for the ideas guys, I guess I have more stuff than I thought after reading the list you guys gave I have most of it. The things I cherish most are the DRO Pros dro for my mill, the lathe will come later. My ebay sale wasn't that big ;D A complete set of drill bits seems to be the item...

    Must have set up tooling.

I have quite a bit of tooling but I am looking for that obscure piece that no one thinks about that is a true time saver or headache remover type piece. Heck I still don't know what most of the stuff does that you see in the Enco Catalogue, especially when it come to work holding, angle plates...

    Must have set up tooling.

Ok, here is the situation. I sold an item on Ebay and now I have some tooling money on hand. So what do you consider great tooling to have on hand you wouldn't want to be without. I am currently going to buy the multi position V Block, little hogger end mills and a few small items.

Where can I find a chuck key to fit a Ridgid drill chuck?

Homedepot sells Rigid tools and they might have a chuck key that would fit. If you have a Home Depot in your area you could carry the chuck in and check for a key. Just a thought.

Rule of Thumb for Material Needed Either Side of Threaded Hole?

One thing I will throw into the mix is the fact that if you are tapping Alum or Brass, if you get too close to the edge it will bulge out the metal on the side of the part when you tap it. Ask me how I know!!!!!!!! I would wager a guess that the edge of the hole to the edge of the work should...

Mounting Work on the rotary Table

I made a aluminum washer/spacer/mounter gizmo to mount my Sherline chuck to my 3" rotary table and it works pretty good and it centers well. Just a thought

OT How would you repair this?

Sorry, I misunderstood the use, when you said slipped I interpreted that the lifting mechanism gave way. That being the case the glue away, the only real concern is that the jack won't lift or lower if it fails then you can deal with it. Devcon has always worked well for me. (Commercial JB weld)...

OT How would you repair this?

Personally I cannot believe that a manufacture would us a press fit for such a crucial application on a jack, especially if the mechanism were to fail and the jack would slip. From what you have said the jack actually slipped when you were letting it down. With that in mind i would want it...

Just finished my Scotty Elmer Number 8

reflad, its a fun build and it does not a long time to build. The hardest thing of the whole build for me was drilling the 1/16" hole from the top side of the cylinder to the crank/timing shaft, that was a deep hole for such a small bit. Enjoy the build if you decide to do it. Madness.

    Tee nut standards

I have noticed that most large supply catalogues list the actual dimensions of there T nuts and i have seen them vary from manufacture to manufacture. Makes me think there is not "standard" for them.

    Its not a DRO

After doing a little more searching it might be a laser micrometer that he is using but if he had used that term I would have remembered it. None the less I would mind having a laser mic but they are a little pricey. $11000 for a Mitutoyo

Help me buy a Mini Mill - Spindle Taper: MT #3 or R8?

I have the mini mill and the X3. The mini has the MT3 and the X3 has the R8. As far as what I do there is not any difference in how the collets/holders work, but I would say that if I had to do it over again I would have went with an R8 on the mini due to the fact that when I moved up in size...

Please don't operate a lathe if your stupid!!!

I don't think he will think about safety any more than he did before he did it. The new generation has no fear when it comes to physical harm, they don't believe getting hurt is a bad thing, its just cool or whatever they call it now. Look at the X games, motor cross and even the Olympics, if...
