Building a twin cylinder inline i.c. engine.

Hi Brian you appear to have spark at the plug, compression and timing right. Do you have wet plugs after spinning the motor? Time to try some new fuel unleaded fresh petrol. Even with low compression it should fire. If the head is not sealing you should get some seepage at the joint. Best wishes...

Building a twin cylinder inline i.c. engine.

Hi Brian !. Check the timing of the second cylinder Placet the first on TDC with the inlet cam just opening the valve, Turn crankshaft 1 turn and the second cylinder the inlet valve should be just opening Timing right. Now check the plug gap setting that it is not too wide say 15 to 20 thou gap...

Building a twin cylinder inline i.c. engine.

Hi Brian, If one cylinder is firing the the cams for the other cylinder should be exactly 180 degrees opposite in the direction of rotation check this out and you should have compression and a beautiful running engine to be proud of.John

    Odds & Ends engine

Most likely the spring setting on your governor is too light meaning the engine speed is too slow for the larger choke diameter. Air speed through the venturi Is too slow to drag in fuel. Tension up the governor weights so the engine runs a little faster and see what happens. I made one more...

1/16" Allen wrenches rounding off corners

Hi Brian, get "UNBRAKO" brand keys and screws. I had the same problem until I upgraded my grub screws and Keys. John

Open the needle jet a full turn and check the ignition Timing John

Shop built sparkplugs for model engines

I use wiper sniper coils not car coils as they will cause flash over and you need extra long insulators which to me are out of proportion in the models we make. The insulator ceramic tubes i use are approximately 1 inch in length. If the plug oils up or fuel floods is easy to clean. I have one...

    Cylinder misalignment question

Why not set up the crankcase and re-machine the cylinder mounting face square and the piston looks to have sufficient metal in the crown to reduce same by a similar amount. John

    New Tool Holder.

Hi The tangential tool holder was designed here in Melbourne Australia by an engineer many years ago. I personally have been using one for 40 years. worth every bit of cost in time saving. John

How Do You Make Tiny Copper Washer Gaskets?

Hi Chaps what I do is turn the washers on the end of copper rod Of the OD of the washer then drill the washer hole diameter then with a correctly ground parting tool part of to the thickness required. Once parted place on length of wire and anneal. Work well.

    Flathead hit and miss engine???

Brian have you thought of a smaller fan on the crankshaft and ducting the air flow to the cylinder and head for cooling. John

    Flathead hit and miss engine???

Using the ignition works fine but wastes fuel as the miss cycle is still drawing in fuel whereas the exhaust valve being held open does not waste an induction cycle . A small point but never the less the ignition cycle still uses the miss cycle to govern speed. An interesting project though...

    Deep Drilling In aluminum block

One of the things missed in the quotes is the drill sharpness! If the two cutting lands are not of equal length or identical angle then the drill bit will not drill an on size or straight hole, always slightly oversize, unless it is only taking a final cut after a slightly undersize drill is...

Time for a new Horizontal Hit and Miss engine

Hi Brian I would have tried heavier weights on the governor which would cause them to activate at a lower speed. Worth a try before a re design. Drill a hole in them and fill with lead John

Time for a new Horizontal Hit and Miss engine

Hi Brian, don;t know if you have seen this video but "Blondi Hacks" makes it relative easy. We can't let the fairer sex better us but she is very good and has many sites. John.

    V-TWIN---MAYBE V-4

Why not just run the right cylinder on it's own. Leave the plug out on the left cylinder or just hold the exhaust valve open on the left. This would make it easier to ID the cause of the problem. Is the cam timing identical with the left side?

    V-TWIN---MAYBE V-4

Unless your carb has a throttle Brian a smaller choke bore will give better carburation at a slower speed and the engine will run smoother. Give it a try. Cheers. John

Engine sucks but will not blow

Have you checked your Valve timing or direction of rotation sounds silly but worth checking the timing for the direction of rotation. If rings and valves are sealing it has to be be something as silly as this. Johwen
