My Hodgson 9 Radial Final Assembly

Top notch job Terry, it really has turned out superb. I haven't looked in at your thread for a little while, and boy have you put some great stuff in. I really appreciate the detailed analysis you have done of your ignition system and lots of great info about the fuel and carb etc. You have...

My Hodgson 9 Radial Final Assembly

Well done Terry. It's looking great and so many small touches you've added that all sum up to make such an impressive outcome. I really like what you've done with the nut that holds the prop on and stand you've made up to hold everything. On another note, what do you think about the...

My Hodgson 9 Radial Final Assembly

Nice Terry. Will be interesting to see what happens after more motoring. With a little luck the rings may bed in making things more consistent between all cylinders. So are you using the 10mm spark plugs as sold on the Jerry Howell site? Cheers Steve

    Brian builds Atkinson Engine

A few answers Brian (not necessarily text book) The cast bar shouldn't have a hard outer skin. You'll be ok turning it using HSS with no rake but you probably want less RPM, especially for the large diameter. Cast iron is soft and easy to turn, it's easy to get a good finish on. It will...

    A "Wallaby" of my own

Thanks for the answer Dave, having never built an enclosed crank type engine it's good to get across some of the detail. Steve

    A "Wallaby" of my own

Still following along here Dave. Question about the oil pump. Does it just pump oil through the crankshaft, or does oil go to the gudgeon pins and even up through the push rods? Good to hear your son is getting into it. Cheers Steve

    A "Wallaby" of my own

Dave - what's coming across to me here is that it's not primarily about how you're enthused about what you're building, it's that you're enthused about being out in the shop building something. Hope you get what I mean. Anyway that's the way I like things. Steve

    A "Wallaby" of my own

I'm watching quietly Dave. I like the way you did it in the lathe. How one would do it is (obviously) strongly influenced by what is readily available and I don't have the additional face plate tooling you have. I'd probably put a centre punch in the centre of the casting spigot and clamp it...

    Hit me - Miss me?

Hi Bob I assume the loctite was a 50ml bottle at 50 bucks? It may be possible to get a 10ml bottle for about 15. I was in a Repco shop a while ago and they were happy to order in a small bottle of loctite for me. Not sure if you can get 620 in a 10ml bottle here? If you have a win let us know...
