    Oilfield Engine (Was Bessemer...)

I just came in at the engine starting on the first pull. I have to agree, amazing, especially on a prototype built from scratch engine. Nice job, congrats.:bow: The hall sensor will end up to be a temporary nuisance. I've used them from the get-go and had problems with my first unit, made...

    Oilfield Engine (Was Bessemer...)

Chuck, Great work. Really neat design. You had me wondering where you were going with it. I got into a lot of trouble with the arrangement on my Wyvern just because my skew gears were different than the drawings called for, as it relocated the side shaft a tad. I was already over my head just...

    Rotary Valves in the head?

I ran across this post a couple of days ago. It caught my interest because I'm considering trying to build a rotary sleeve valve engine. I'm probably biting off more than I can chew as I'm kind of fresh to machining, but nothing ventured... I have an early (1917) full size Alamo...

    Cabin fever #18

My feet are still sore and I'm also a little hoarse from the marathon three day walkathon/jawboning adventure. Still smiling too. I met a lot a lot of old friends and people I'd like to be able to call old friends. I picked up some new goodies for the shop, came away with some new ideas and also...

Gail, thanks for detailing the finishing operations on the cylinder bore. You covered all of the gray areas that I've wondered about. GUS

Sniff test for gas leak goes wrong

Norman, That sounds like it must have been a nightmarish scene. I have trouble comprehending what kind of pleasure a person could have doing something like that. I hope nobody was hurt.

Sniff test for gas leak goes wrong

Thanks guys, nothing hurt but my ego. Although I wasn't sure whether getting the fire extinguisher or shutting the gas off was the right choice, removing the most flammable and well supplied seemed more feasible, I didn't stop to ponder the choice. I'm thinking now the gas was the best choice...

Sniff test for gas leak goes wrong

I'm very embarressed about this because it happened to me, two days ago. Maybe my posting it might help prevent another such accident. I was preparing my camper for the trip to Cabin Fever this coming Friday. Getting the propane gas systems purged of air and test firing the stove, furnace and...

    Compound Condensing Engine

Dave, I have to agree with you on Dennis' work, I've been mainly watching your work. Probably because I'm trying hard not to want to start casting. I dabbled in casting long time ago in my silversmith period, pretty neat stuff. It would open a lot of new avenues, but I'm still struggling trying...

    Thumb piercings

Yeah, sh.. happens, I've learned over the years to watch out for ricochets from all types of nailers. Sometimes the nail will hit some tough grain or another nail and curl right back through the surface, especially with brad nailers. I've had framing nails whiz past my head or sometimes whack me...

Dave, Wow, beautiful work, awesome. Watching your work makes me realize that I haven't even graduated day school yet. GUS

Dieter Hartmann-Wirthwein patent engine by Gail in NM

Gail, Wow, that's really neat, and the fine machining on the small parts. What else can I say except, that's a nicer penny.;):D GUS

    Wyvernish Build

Singapore Gus, George Britnell's spark plug drawings are here somewhere, can't remember now exactly where. I'll find it and show you where. I do mine a bit different, but the result is basically George's sparkplug Vince, You don't have to wait, at the bottom of this post is the new Youtube...

    Wyvernish Build

This has been quite a hiatus. Almost a year. Time really flies when your having fun. When I get stumped I usually stop work and try to figure things out. But nothing was coming to mind and I got distracted by summer. So I just let summer happen, and the Wyvernish project came to an abrupt halt...

    Photobucket pics not in order???

Bill, suck it up is what I've been doing, but I just have to say "it's gotta stop now". I was going to make a post today involving ten pictures or so, but I didn't. I have to figure this out. Jason, I just tried the organize tab, by moving two pictures. They stayed where I put them. But...

    Photobucket pics not in order???

I've been experiencing this problem for quite a while now. I upload my pictures to Photobucket in an album specific to that build, as my build progresses, but they never appear in the correct order numerically. As I'm sure most of the cameras we use, mine included, assign those numbers in the...

    Lil' Henry Build

OK Singapore Gus, you've peaked my curiosity. What are you going to do with worm gears? Or is it a surprise? Making worm gears doesn't seem like it would be very simple. I hope your taking pictures. GUS

    Hit and miss RPM question

Borna, just my .02 worth, but a hit and miss engine should usually fire one, maybe two hits and the coast until it nearly stops. I think at top speed it would be 2 to 4 hundred RPM, unless you have a load it. Then depending on the load it may fire more continually. GUS
