    startin' on a Webster

Hey long time no see! This time the delay has been motorcycles taking up all my time. Still into that, but the other day I got the Webster down off the shelf and cleaned it up. The battery was of course dead (5 years...) so instead I put some leads on it so the ignition runs off a 12v power...

    startin' on a Webster

Well not so fast.... It is indeed running much more reliably, but I'm having an issue with the piston tightening up in the bore as it gets hot. I'm thinking the viton o-ring piston ring is probably at fault. After a cold start, perhaps 4 minutes into running nice and steady it starts...

    startin' on a Webster

I guess I've taken a three year break . (Been playing with model airplanes :)). Anyway, contrary to what I said in the last post, the Webster never did work reliably with the vapor carburetor. It's mainly been collecting dust... But a few months ago I fitted a model airplane engine...

    Mendocino motor

These guys: http://www.futurlec.com/ The ones I wanted are not in stock though... :(. I've asked them for advice.

    Mendocino motor

Got a bit of a delay going on here... As it turns out, the place I ordered the solar cells from is in Australia (I wondered why they said it would be 1 to 2 weeks...). Anyway, Visa flagged the transaction as possibly fraudulent, and put a hold on it, without telling me . I found out...

My first I.C. engine, a variation on the theme of Webster

My first (and only, so far) IC engine was also a Webster - following with interest! I also added cooling fins. I've been meaning to fit it with a proper carburetor from a model airplane engine.

    Mendocino motor

Hi all! Remember me? I've been off playing with model airplanes for a couple years... stuff like this: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2257072 (I know - I should build a 1/6 scale VW engine for it ). Anyway, I've always been interested in the magnetic levitated...

    Gas line repair (I hope...)

To follow up, the water line is holding up just fine so far. The temperature has been as low as 7 degrees f :)

    Gas line repair (I hope...)

We have heat (gas heat) in the shop again! Just finished hooking up both ends and all seems to be well :)

That's a beauty! Hope it works well for you :)

    Gas line repair (I hope...)

Hey - running water in the shop! It's only a 1/4" line, and there is no drain, but it will be handy for replenishing water bottles, refilling the quenching tank next to the grinder, etc. It's also an experiment - it's well above the frost line and terminates in a building that is unheated if...

    Gas line repair (I hope...)

Well today was trench party day! One person showed up  But most of the difficult stuff is done, including tunneling under the sidewalk. I can finish up myself tomorrow. Can't believe how much rubble there is buried in my yard  - hunks of concrete, broken bricks, all kinda crap.

    Gas line repair (I hope...)

Yep - and I was just now going to add that back in to this thread (but you beat me to it!). I'm collecting materials and planning the trench digging party - all the beer you can drink as long as you take a turn with a shovel :D

    Recent column

Seems to me it used to be only across the bottom of the first page, then didn't show at all when reading posts. That was much better if you ask me. The way it is now it causes 25% of my screen width to be just wasted blank space on the left.

    Gas line repair (I hope...)

Did a pressure test this afternoon on the single coat of stuff - it was still leaking. I've now got it filled up again, but this time I have it under pressure with the varnish in place. It's been holding ~50 psi for an hour or so. Presumably, the varnish has been forced out through the leaking...

    Gas line repair (I hope...)

The installation met code originally, except for the soldered joints underground. I worked in the building trades and ran the plan by an architect before putting it in :) A quick perusal of the current Ohio code this morning seems like it still does. However I am a bit concerned about the...

    Gas line repair (I hope...)

25 some years ago I buried a 1/2" copper pipe from the house to the shop, and used it as a natural gas line for many many years. (Don't worry - only compression fittings above ground, but soldered connections underground...) It's about 30' long. A few years ago I smelled a leak outside when I...

    In the dark

So Friday afternoon I was making myself one of Bog's little precision scrap thingies when that storm hit, the power went out, and the lathe stopped spinning. The electric company's web site estimates we will be back "on" July 7th (today is July 1st). Grrrr... The 100 degree temperatures...
