    Slayer Exciter

I have wound some coils, to test that Exciter thing. It basically needs the coils(L1(several hundred rounds of thin wire(0,1-0,3mm)), and L2(1-2 rounds of much thicker wire(~1mm)), one transistor, an Led, and one resistor. It actually works. Powering it with 2 AA batteries(3 volts), it lights...

    Slayer Exciter

Anyone heard of those? I haven't, until yesterday. I was looking an information on the net about another subject, and ended up to Youtube(as I often do). So, one video got my attention: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xiCgX_UgdoE I recommend to mute the sound(video soundtrack contains only...

    An idea for a tachometer

One day, I played with a motor, that I extracted from defunct hard drive. It has four leads, so plenty of choises. I just picked two, and attached them to multimeter(measuring frequency(Hz), while the motor's axle was attached to lathe's chuck. I managed to get the lathe to run, and...

    Spark source

What comes to magneto, there just might be a compact alternative at: http://www.epemag3.com/index.php?option=com_docman&task=cat_view&gid=63&Itemid=38 'Wind-up Torch", that is powered by manually cranking the stepper motor, to make some lighting. How about a stepper motor turned by an engine...

    Spark source

Flyswatters, that I ordered, have arrived. After short period of testing, I'm convinced, as Shred mentioned earlier, that these circuits are not suitable to produce spark, except when fed through an additional coil or transformer. Even then, charging time is way too long, as I can tell by...

    Spark source

Mcostelo, I assume, that this thread isn't about killing, or torturing any living thing. Just to possibly adapt existing technology to produce spark for our engines. I'm aware, that there are some serious mods made for a standard flyswatter, that makes any size of an insect to explode. But...

    Spark source

Admiral_dk, the one you pointed out, seems to be more of a heavy duty sparker, since it requires hefty 3 amps. But, anyways, it would be interesting to see, what's inside that unit.

    Spark source

Shred, I guess that the main difference between 'Blokker' and flyswatter circuit is, that latter discharges its voltage, not through the air, but through the insect(s), needing only some hundreds of volts to work. Also, according to pics, that I've seen of the swatter circuit, it lacks the...

What a coincidence - the ones I ordered, have just the same price, per piece, 2,99 €.

    Spark source

Well, I ordered two of those 'flyswatters', just to take them apart, and test, if they can produce reliable spark, continuously. In my case, it means using a rotating cam (could it get any simpler?). They haven't arrived yet, but in the meantime, I've done some research on the subject, and...

    Spark source

One possible alternative for 'Blokker' circuit, might be one, that is used on an Electric flyswatter: Don't know much about electronics, but I assume, that there is some similar factors on both circuits. Their functions seem to be almost the same; by pressing the button(switch), both produce...

    Spark source

Any info of the coils used on that circuit? According to Jan Ridders, primary coil's resistance is 0,5 ohms, and secondary has 450 ohms. Those coils seem to be rather small, making them easier to build, without any specific winding tools. One factor, that I miss, is the thickness of wire on...

Has anyone noticed anything wrong with the site?

I have noticed same thing. But in my location, it seems to be temporary. To check if site is down, to see, are you the only one, that has "not available" -message: http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/ Maybe some spam bots are on the loose.

    system overheating

Alan, if I understand correctly, you haven't had a heat problem on your laptop before adding that 2Gb of Ram? If so, maybe that additional memory unit is the source of excess heat. Or maybe it's just an IE8; can't say, because I haven't used IE for years. Maybe even Firefox, that I use...

    Randall Cox Open Column Six

Sweet it sounds yes. Looks not bad either. As mentioned, open column makes it even more interesting. Small engine huff'npuff'n, it's just magic .

Trojan warning: "United Parcel Service notification"

Tomorrow I got that 'notification' in my email. It contains text: ------------------ Dear customer. The parcel was sent your home address. And it will arrive within 7 business day. More information and the tracking number are attached in document below. Thank you. © 1994-2011 United Parcel...

    A Ringbom Engine

Doc1955, are those engines based on James R Senft's plans? They sure look similar, although I haven't seen actual plan drawings, but photos, and his book's cover picture. But, be it one way or another, you have done rather nice job this far .

Help required to clean my desktop

Bogs, have you tried to start windows on safe mode, and maybe then delete that thing? I've never used an xp64, so it might have mind of its own ???. Neither I have never had that kind of problem on w2k/xp-32, which I've used and abused quite a lot. Without knowing, what kind of...

    Hall transistors

I followed a thread at madmodder, where one member was testing reed switch on his engine at http://madmodder.net/index.php?topic=2456.60 According to that, mechanical factors prevented him to use it for a long term.

Replacing a Hall effect sensor with an optical one?

Tom, I did some searching, and that Honeywell 2AV54 is available here also :). When looking its datasheet, it seems to have 3 pins, as HAL506UA(part used on 5bears schematic) does.
