    Copper Boiler Fabrication

I don't know how big a boiler you want to make, but if you can find an old copper fire extinguisher, they make very nice boiler barrels. From my memory, the one i made was 2" diam.x6" long, and I think about 1/8 thickness. the extinguisher also provided material for the end caps.Simply cut the...

    Boll Aero 4.4

Hi all,has anyone built this bigger Boll engine? I've just got the plan for it,but ideally I'd like to convert it to glow operation. Obviously,I would leave out the contra piston, and drill and tap the head for a glow plug.Do I need to change the ports in any way?Is there anything else that...

    Cracking X2 Rubber Bellows

The bellows on my zay45 seem to be some sort of cardboard.I simply have a plastic tea tray behind the table when milling. This catches 90% of the shavings, and i call that good enough.

    SHCS vs Hex head

I note that on some really early engines, square headed bolts and nuts were often used. Model supplies are few and far between, and if you can get them,a horrendous price.I much prefer the look of hex anyway, but am using shcs on my version of Jan Ridders simple 2 stroke.Mainly because I had no hex...

    us eartquake.

I hope any members in the area are ok.That was a sizeable quake, and would have been a frightening experience for many people. I haven't heard any further news yet.Strength to all concerned.

    Non-toxic cleaner

For cleaning baked on castor oil residue off model rc engines,I simply use washing powder.I boil the parts in an open pan with the powder, and they come up clean as a whistle.Oil as soon as dry,and bingo, one clean engine. Whether this works with other types of grease I don't know.Worth a try?

    Small nuts and fat fingers

What you need is an old BA ignition spanner set. They are usually hinged together on a pin.Look at garage sales or markets. Doesn't help with that first turn though.I was going to suggest a magnetic pickup tool, but that won't work in your case.

    My shop in the attic

I was thinking the same thing!Welcome to the forum,Ticino. My workshop is 6x3m,so not much bigger than yours. It's amazing how much stuff you can put in such a small space :big:

    auctionzip AGAIN!

Question:Which is cheaper, the Ford coupe,or a divorce lawyer :big:. But seriously, that's NOT a 1940 Ford coupe, more like a 32-34.But it IS nice 8). So you want to spend a whole $20 on coffee for your wife, and $25.000+ on a car for yourself.See anything wrong with this picture? You may need to...

    hi from the netherlands

Hi,pascal, welcome to the forum.I was born in Den haag. The Sherline machines are good quality, but very small. If you ever want to go on to bigger models or engines, that might be a limiting factor. Having said that, some amazing stuff has been built on Sherline machines.

    Nemett 15cc 4 stroke engine.

Nice start,Roy.I too love the sound of four strokes, they sound much more natural than a screaming 2 stroke. This one is on my ever growing to-do list.So many projects,so little time

    Tapping Small Holes

I have one of those cheap chucks, and I wouldn't trust it to drill a straight hole, let alone tap a thread with any kind of precision. I lucked into an old drill stand, and converted this into a tapping stand. It uses a chuck of a similar size, but a quality old english type.Never broken a tap...

A Better LEGO GA8 Airvan Engine?

An intriguing idea for sure ,Niels, but I wonder if the losses in the gearing wouldn't be too much. Also, both propellors would be causing massive turbulence, their "wake" being intermingled.Would they also not need to be contra-rotating?Not wishing to rain on your parade, but there are some natural...

    snow

First it's earthquakes, now it's snow. It's very unusual for us here in christchurch, new zealand to have this much snow. We've got about a foot on the ground, and it's still coming down. I know it's nothing to people in the other parts of the world, but it's almost paralyzed this city. As for me,I'm...

    Carmaggedon

    Myford Closing

To be honest,I always felt the Myford lathes to be rather overpriced for their size and capabilities, especially secondhand. It's only since the ready availability of the chinese imports that used Myfords have found a more realistic level. I'm not criticizing Myford quality, which is undoubtedly...
