Loctite 680 and its use in a press fit application?

I think that Loctite 648 is the one to use for interference fits

    A 'Mills 1.3' copy

Thanks for the quick response. When you run it does it have the characteristics that the Mills was noted for, ie. easy to start and able to swing a large prop? Steve

    A 'Mills 1.3' copy

Thanks for the drawings, it should be possible to a produce a good replica from them but I ran into a problem. I was trying to work out the engine's port timing from the drawings. The ports are dimensioned from the bottom of the cylinder - but the dimension from the underside of the cylinder...

    A 'Mills 1.3' copy

Tomlinson, many thanks for taking the time to post your drawings. It's over 50 years since I was shown how to start and adjust a Mills 1.3 (it belonged to someone in the local aero model club). It was the first engine I had contact with so seeing your drawings and photos brought back a lot of...

Hi George, Thanks for your quick reply. Regards Steve.

    Tiny I.C. Engine

Congratulations George on a nice running engine. Can I ask about the crankshaft ball bearings. Are they retained only by the pressure from the bearing caps or is there some other way to stop them moving along the crankshaft that I cannot make out from your photos? Regards, Steve

    Tiny I.C. Engine

George, you have made a very nice version of the Tiny, I particularly like your hit-n-miss latch mechanism. I will be interested to hear how the lapped aluminium piston in a cast iron cylinder works out - I hope you don't run into any problems with different rates of thermal expansion. By the...

George, Thanks for sharing the modifications you are making to the basic design and your build photos. You've grabbed our attention. Steve

    Tiny I.C. Engine

Gail, thanks for the info. I have some leaded EN1a so that's my crankshaft material sorted (although I'm a bit reluctant to eliminate reasons why I 'must' attend model engineering shows this year.....). The UK grade of aluminium equivalent to 2024 is HE15 which is approx. 50% stronger than HE30...

    Tiny I.C. Engine

Gail, Thanks for taking the time to reply and the reassurance with the big end design. Your tip regarding the oil you use is filed away for later. I will need to source some higher strength steel and aluminium for the crankshaft and con-rod but that will give me a good excuse to attend one or...

    Tiny I.C. Engine

Gail, I have a question about the design of the Tiny that I think your extended running can answer. Have you had any problems with the unusual big end bearing split line design? I'm thinking of having this little engine (an air cooled version I think) as my next project, I've never done a...

Elmer Verburg's Opposed Piston Engine 2 X Scale

Most (all?) of Elmer Verburg's designs were generously made public domain for use by hobbyists, see the following link. http://www.john-tom.com/html/ElmersEngines.html The opposed piston engine is number 30 in the list. Steve
