Well Done Ray. Looks like you're onto a winer there. Great Stuff.

    Decals/Logo

I use my laser printer for making logos etc on my model aircraft. I just print directly onto the covering film. Works well on Solartex, etc. I have also done printed photographs onto wood. This is for inkjet printers only. Print the image reversed horizontally (Irfan press H) onto clear...

    Grinding spindle.

Thank you for your very explicit response, I'm afraid I'm not conversant with the formulae. So, what you are saying is that: the balls just deform to allow them to "skid" along the tracks. You are correct in stating that the contact area is extremely small, this is what causes very high...

Sorry, but I disagree with this.

    Aviation fuel in 4-stroke engine?

Yes Peter, I believe that is what happens, but I still find it difficult to swallow. The Enya is an excellent engine and I'm sure the designers knew what they were doing. A few years ago I had an OS 4-stroke, which had the camshaft in front of the engine, unlike the previous model, where it was...

    Aviation fuel in 4-stroke engine?

Speaking of model aircraft engines for a minute: does anybody know exactly, how the oil in the fuel gets into the crankcase to lubricate the big end etc. not to mention the valve gear. I'm talking about such engines as O.S./Saito/Laser 4-strokes, or similar. Jack

    Decals/Logo

You could download Irfanview or Faststone Viever. They are both FREE and will resize images to whatever size you choose. Jack

    Grinding spindle.

You say that when bearings are pre-loaded, the balls will always be rolling. I cannot see how the balls will roll on two surfaces of different diameters, being the inner and outer races.

    Grinding spindle.

No, I'm afraid it isn't. It's just got an oil reservoir mounted above each bearing housing, similar to a Myford Lathe. I cut a spiral in the shaft to persuade the oil where to go. Jack

I've built a grinding spindle using bronze bushes. I haven't used it yet. Do you think there will be any problems? Jack

    Electric Solenoid Engine

Here' on I built many years ago. I'm into aeroplanes and engines, and, being an electrician I thought this would be a good idea, It has 5 cylinders and at the top of each one is a small LED. This is connected in reverse, so as the current in the coil collapses, it lights the LED very briefly...

Centering in a 4 jaw chuck

The other week I had to centre a piece of rectangular bar in the 4-jaw chuck. A friend of mine suggested the following idea, which was a lot easier than using a DTI in the normal manner, and having to remember the cross slide dial settings. So, I rigged up a Last Word clock in the tailstock so...

Mills MK1 Series 1 Scaled down to 0.56cc

Rodrigo, You have done a wonderful job with your Mills. It'll be good to see the finished engine (running?) Jack

    Adhesives for Round Rubber Belting

The way to heat them is by heating up a piece of metal plate while it is being jammed in between the two ends of the belt you wish to join. As soon as the plate is hot, pull the ends away, the plate drops on the floor (careful) and push the ends together again. Loctite used to make an adhesive...

    Carburetor with accelerator pump

Yes, Perry Pumps are (used to be?) available. Some people like them, but I like to get my engines to operate without them. Glow engines also use a pressure tap on the silencer to pressurise the fuel tank, all other pipes to the tank being sealed, apart from the feed pipe. If you put a one-way...

    Carburetor with accelerator pump

I have a 15cc 2-stroke made by Webra, which has an accelerator pump. The carb. doesn't have a round barrel, which is the usual way of metering the fuel. Instead it has a slide, which slides in a groove across the venturi. Adjacent to the slide, and fastened to it, is a rod which slides into a...

    Small filing machine

Has anyone ever used a filing rest on their lathe? I'm thinking of making one which will fit onto my vertical slide, then, with the use of suitable indexing of the chuck, file up a camshaft. Any ideas please? Jack

    First Running Engine

Well Done Mario, It runs well doesn't it. The RPM might be a bit low. What size prop are you using? Jack
