yes, this is with the JH demand regulator. I wonder if I need some sort of more accurate needle control valve.

I'm a month or more later. I've tidied up everything, electrics, fixed some compression woes and built a water pump for cooling. mostly just procrastinating the inevitable, ie, starting it. the main issue I believe now is probably gas flow, I have no real control over how much. someone mentioned...

    The Myfordboy Steam Engine

good to see another one. I built one a few years ago, really nice runner and reverser.

OK>.. so dumb blonde mistake there, girl. there's a lil rubber seat that's supposed to go inside the needle seat body and that fixes everything. oops.

ok, I'm about 90% into Jerry H's demand valve. there are some design issues that don't work. I hope I have the right needle and seat. I machined it all and put it together, then realised the needle sits way too high, to the point that when I sit the diaphragm on, then the valve is pushed in and...

scan the drawings or get them scanned, get them touched up, and bung them on the internet with a 10 dollar download fee. build a steam engine for the compressor.

    Generator plans?

I have a new printer, so I printed this to see how it looks on the bench. not sure if I'm planning my next project or not yet, but its very doable.

and yes i think the 800 was hit and miss.

thanks, everybody. Tecumseh parts on order, so the first thing will be to make a gas valve. the 400 was very very basic compared to the 600 and the 800, or even the 1/2hp or Sandhurst. I made a spark timer as per the instructions, but I believe the instructions for the gas hookup just weren't...

Im a beginner here with the quote thing too. the needle valve is on the bottle though, here's a better picture. I may make a limiting valve as you suggest. I had hoped the tapered plug cock on the line would do the job.

that's pretty helpful. off to try that now. looks like I might need a needle valve. id have loved hot tube, but I'm sort of glad at the moment I didn't go there this time. they're beautiful engines. thankyou

so, it fires and hits next compression and bounces at this point. I think maybe it's just fuel /air mixture, but I have no control over what goes in the cylinder. the big question, is, what would you all do? should I give up on gas and fit a bubble or surface carb? or should i keep looking for...
