Baby lathes, any experience with them?

I am actually thinking of buying a Taig. The main reasons for me would be the the saddle handle being right where it should be (in the front), and the fact that there is a couple of inches extra swing. The larger swing not because I could do bigger work, but because I use the 4 jaw chuck a lot...

Baby lathes, any experience with them?

I have a Sherline Lathe and I can use er16 collets in it, as well as 3 and 4 jaw chucks. It is a very accurate machine. There is a fellow on "another" forum that has built numerouse things, including a Pensy A3 and a Lombard Log Hauling, tracked engine with Sherline equip. The taig has a wheel...

    Anet A8

I have a Wanhao I3 Duplicator plus, and have had it for about a year. For the most part, I have had no trouble with it and have gone through 5 or so rolls of filament. It is a bit smaller than the Anet (200x200x185) and I would like to build a bigger printer. I picked up an E3D head and a Titan...

    Rope Making Machine Plans?

No plans but I made mine from pics on the net ... google rope walk. The main thing is getting the gears to mesh. The gears I used are from r/c cars ... virtually anything will do that will turn three gears off of one central one. I drive mine with an electric drill and it drives the central...

    Ghosty's Rupnow Vertical Engine

Looking good so far. The cylinder may be a tad undersized, but I think it actually adds some character to the engine. I understand that you know it is a bit smaller, and it bugs you, but I'm sure that most folks wouldn't have a clue. Tom

    A new engine for fall---

Brian, what a wonderful testament to your design prowess. That Ohio engine is a beauty and it runs very well. I have tried to download the plans, but the link seems to be no good ... is there another one? Tom

    Universal Joint

Excellent timing! I am in the process of building a large (nearly 5 feet long and will weigh 65lbs or so) radio controlled tug boat that has 2 24volt motors powering 2 4" propellers. I need some u-joints just a bit smaller than this, but the same design. Lead on McDuff! Tom

    Finishing a model steam engine.

A masterful job of this project. Reminds me I should pull my finger out at get at the engine house for my beam engine. Tom

    Walking Beam Conveyor

Another success Brian. It is amazing to be part of the thought process as you work your way through a project. Thank You for all the time you put into the words and music, not to mention the neat machines and well running engines. Tom

First lathe and mill help! -sherline.

A very quick search on this forum turned up a good example of what can be done with Sherline tools ... http://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/showthread.php?t=23204&highlight=Kozo%27s+Shay+Build. A quick search of the web will bring up dozens more. Cheers Tom

    3D printer questions

Yup, the feeler gauge would be excellent ... if I had one, which I don't. I must look into getting one as I agree totally. Tom

    3D printer questions

Gordon, I am 70 years old and I find that if I don't keep stretching the limits, then the limits shrink very quickly. Last week at this time I had no idea I would have one of these contraptions whirring away in the other room. I'm finding it great fun, now that the initial cold sweats are gone...

    3D printer questions

To help sort out the bed issue, I was told to use a piece of ordinary printer paper. Home all axis and turn the machine OFF. With the nozzle in one corner, slide the paper between the bed and the nozzle ... adjust the bed until you can just feel some resistance when you try to pull the paper out...

    Bevel gears. HELP.

I hate to say it, but Mr Britnell is correct. I have made a few gears for myself and I can tell you that you might be better off paying the 65 Pounds. It takes a bit of time to make gears. Tom
