Arrange and classify metals in the shop

Somewhere I saw a similar system that used rectangular gutter down spouts pop riveted together. Less wasted space between the sections and the rectangles can be rotated horizontal or vertical to fit your space better. Bob

    Photographing a build

peter195124, do you just crop in a photo program or process it in another way? I was thinking poster board from the office supply might be useful for a back drop but what color so as to not mess with the cameras settings. White, gray or something else? Bob

Ball Hopper Monitor - Casting Project

I use Ford coil over plug (COP) ignition coils and have had good luck with them. Some of the external ears and shields can be removed to get them down to a reasonable size. They work well at 6 volts or less. If you go up to 12v you will get a hellacious spark that will arc out all over the...

    Photographing a build

The Gorillapod is definetly going on my christmas list. Any way to get an iPhone to focus closer than the 10 or so inches away that mine seem to bottom out at? Bob

    Photographing a build

Thanks everyone. What I'm getting so far is use diffuse lighting, uncluttered surroundings, get a tripod or camera mount for the phone and take lots of shots. I've never posted a build but am thinking about it. I suppose you all can tell me what to do better as I go along. Bob

    Photographing a build

Are there any threads here with tips on taking photographs to post of your build? I am NOT good at taking pictures in general and only have an iPhone to work with. As a build thread is no good without pictures I need helping that department. Any threads or help? Bob

Question about putting VFD on a step pulley mill.

Most of us have a cutter diameter that is our go to for most work. Pick the pulleys that you would use for that cutter with a normal 3 phase feed. Your motor will run at that speed at 60Hz on the VFD. Vary it up and down from there but as others have said, you're not married to that pulley. You...

Does your pet have a metal deficiency (no, not a mental deficiency)?

I had a deaf cat that wasn't scared of anything. He would sit on top of the lathe and swat at the chips as they flew off. He would also get into the deep dish of the tractor wheels and walk inside them like a hamster in a wheel as I drove around. I miss him. Bob

    Shelf Pet models?

Just a follow up. Looks like Shelf Pet is done. I bought the last semi complete kit of a Frisco Standard. If you are thinking about getting something grab it while you can, the vendors are dropping fast. Bob

CASTING PARTS FROM TIN OR ZINC?

Not to hang a left turn here but is there anyway to stabilize a part once the sink rot starts? Bob

    Shelf Pet models?

Does anyone have contact information for the owners of Shelf Pets? Bob

    Shelf Pet models?

Does anyone know what happened to Shelf Pet models? I was thinking about their Frisco standard kits but when I went to look tonight the site was gone. I want to grab one if I still can before they're gone too. Bob

Casting Kits I would like to see For Sale Again

I had asked about some patterns on eBay a few months ago as I have the same general feeling of hating to see the old patterns go away forever. The general opinion seemed to be many of the old patterns are outdated or need modifications to be used today. I don't even know enough to be dangerous...

    Seized taper lock

If you're worried about lighting the saw dust on fire a good heat gun, not a blow dryer, will do the trick. Been there, done that. Bob
