    Simplicity Steam Engine

What issues of Live Steam did the plans come in? Are your modifications available as drawings (PDF)? Thanks! It is a very nice looking build! I want to build one too.

    EZ Engine Completed

Thanks, Jeff. The extra screw in the valve body was not put there on purpose, at first... So, take a possible mistake and turn it into a feature! I had the valve body turned upside down from what I thought it was and put the second hole away from the intended position - which got a hole, too...

    EZ Engine Completed

I built the EZ Engine (plans in the Download section) over the last few days. I had not done much machining in the recent past and it was good to get back in and build something. I made a few modifications - lengthened the frame and stand to the end of the valve body, added an additional screw...

Mechanical Appliances, Mechanical Movements and Novelties of Construction

This is a fascinating book. It is also available on Google Books as a PDF downloadable file of the 1910 book. The url is way long, so just search Google for the name"Mechanical Appliances, Mechanical Movements and Novelties of Construction" and it will pop up under Google Books. Paul KE7HR

    Homemade DRO...maybe...sort of...

Zee, Have you looked at the DRO section on the CDCO tools website? They have displays for the scales and calipers. They also have photos of the glass scale DRO units. Building a DRO system does look like fun, but buying the built parts, programmed, might be easier - leaving time to build engines!

    CDCO

I placed a telephone order with CDCO last Friday afternoon. He said that it would ship that afternoon and it did - crossing half the country in just a few days. The eight items that I ordered arrived complete and well packed. I was satisfied as a first time customer and will probably order from...

Welcome, Dale! I am glad to hear that the Jingle Bell engine got built again. I was showing mine off yesterday! If you have photos of your build or a running video, it would be great to see.

    Digital read out interface

I looked at the DRO from Little Machine Shop but wonder about how it handles the backlash problem. With external scales that only respond to table (quill, cross slide, etc.) actual movement, I think it would be more accurate.

    Free CAD software

I have been using DoubleCAD XT for a couple of months now and am getting the settings to be what I want them to be. There is a useful function area to get keyboard short cuts to work like you want. Example, type MID instead of MiddleOfLine or some such. More like the AutoCAD short cuts that I...

    Digital read out interface

I have looked at this project, but not taken it on yet... http://www.compendiumarcana.com/caliper/ I bought three cheap calipers thinking I will make a homebrew DRO for my little three in one machine. Maybe the way the link did it or use a PIC.

Central Machinery Multipurpose Tool Model 5890

Yes, pictures would be good and a description of what you have and what it wants to become. Metal working tools can work on many plastics, but others have internal stresses and will shatter or just fall apart.

Printing a drawing from AutoCad format

I just did a test with ACAD 14 to write out a small test file with CutePDF at 100% scale. It works as expected.

Printing a drawing from AutoCad format

The CutePDF solution mentioned earlier should work for print shops that have larger plotters and have a PDF reader. Select the paper size you want in AutoCAD and use the CutePDF print driver to create the PDF file. Take the file to the shop and have your print on the paper of your desired size...
