Removing pulley from a motor spindle

If after removing the set screws that hold the key. You can drill and tap the end of the key and use a slide hammer to remove the tapered key. Or sometimes you can drill two holes into the sheave straight across from each other and use H-bar puller to remove the sheave with the key. The problem...

    Compressed air safety

I would not recommend putting any type of sealant inside an air tank. Reason I say this is there are teltail holes drilled in the OD of certified tanks they are drilled to min. Tank wall thickness. When the tank wall corrodes to the min wall thickness the tank will start leaking at these holes...

    Compressed air safety

There is no industry recognized definition for a marine grade stainless steel, even though the phrase is routinely used by many end-users. Chloride ions can cause localized corrosive attack (pitting and crevice corrosion) of susceptible stainless steels.[4]In a marine environment it must be made...

I also forgot to mentioned that another reason for corrosion In stainless. Is the use of the wrong type of stainless for the application. there are so many different types of stainless it’s hard to keep track of them all.

    Compressed air safety

I work with stainless steel everyday 309,316 and harden stainless. We see corrosion everyday. Citric acid is something that will cause corrosion. But one of the biggest problems as was mentioned above is the wrong fasteners being used. But high concentrations of salt and hot water and so many...

    Compressed air safety

All I was saying was the installation of either a spitter valve or an auto drain valve is another way of doing something. I have personally had a spitter valve on my 10 horse 120 gallon compressor for well over 25 years and knock on wood never had a problem with it. Some embrace technology and...

    Compressed air safety

Just make sure you use a tank that has been certified. All quality air tanks are certified and have a tag attached to them or they are stamped. I also would recommend putting an auto spitter on the tank that way you don’t have to worry too much about moisture in the bottom of the tank. Are far...

Quieting a Noisey Bench Top Lathe. How ??

Lloyd Just a thought here setting your bearing’s to zero play may not be a good thing. By doing that you are not including any play for thermo expansion when the spindle warms up. Just a suggestion here. One other question is do you think maybe the bearings have to have some pre-load. Some...

Quieting a Noisey Bench Top Lathe. How ??

Lloyd We will talk another time about my fav. Past time but very nice grouping. It is truly amazing how far air rifles have come from the old daisy red Ryder. I also want to mention to you about checking turning torque if you have a lab torque wrench. Or A very good quality beam torque...

Nice So you build custom air rifles don’t mean to high jack your thread. I have a friend that has a custom air rifle and that thing smokes most 22 cal rifles

Quieting a Noisey Bench Top Lathe. How ??

I agree with you those are just plain tapper bearings they don’t look like a high speed bearing. And you are correct it it spun before with no tight spot while turning then I would say the line bore is probably good. And the shaft is probably ok but if you have a set of v/blocks I would just...

Quieting a Noisey Bench Top Lathe. How ??

Have you checked the shaft to make sure it’s not bent?? Also what is all that pitting on the shaft from or is that just some debris on the shaft. Depending on what you see with the bearings you may need to check the line bore. What are the pre-load specs for the spindle. I am just guessing is...

    Problem with a rotary table

Had the same problem with my 12 inch phase2. Mine would turn stiff in the same spot every time and would turn out of it in about 30 degrees. It’s probably not the worm gear if it was the worm gear it would happen every turn of the handle. I found a couple teeth on the ring gear that was machined...

    Fractal Vise

I am waiting to win the lottery. That’s the day I will own one. It’s a shame there are not more on the used market. But I think that is due to not many of them around cause of the cost even back in the old days. And the fact they was very difficult to keep from rusting up and keeping all the...

    Rotary table problems

Also the phase 2 has been a very good table very accurate. The only thing I wish they would change is the way the t-slots are indexed. Wished they would have started with a t-slot on zero then indexed them around the table so each slot would been on a number every 60 degrees
