    Manual or DRO

Agree. I would have started with a small steam engine where tolerances are more forgiving. Dennis

    First Engine Elmer's #29

Nice work Ed. The brass and aluminum look fantastic together. Dennis

    Trout Shows His Elmer

Exactly, Don. I've been lucky the last couple of weeks since wifey has been preoccupied with her latest garden club duties. I'm sliding under the radar. *beer* Heck, I might even take up RC airplanes again. Thanks again for all the compliments, guys. I'll make a video before long. Have to...

    Trout Shows His Elmer

Thanks Gents. Jordan, if you can find them on sale, well...the lathe at least, I don't think the mill ever goes on sale but you can use a 20% off coupon on both. If you use the coupon and find the lathe on sale it will be about $350. The mill (X2) is closer to $600 but take 20% off of that...

    Trout Shows His Elmer

I'm talking about steam engines here...for heaven's sake. Thm: Will try to make a video at some point. BTW, this was machined using a Harbor Freight lathe and milling machine. In case you were wondering. *beer* Trout

Gail In NM - He's Back

I really, really like that scooter. I didn't know they made them like that. Although I don't need it yet, I went ahead and built a ramp up to my doorstep that extends 20 feet out into the driveway. When/if the time comes where I need it to access the house, it'll be there and the son won't...

Two Engines in One or Elmer Gets a Makeover

Congratulation Stan, a worthy model which will look fine on any shelf in the house (or workshop). I like the propeller idea too. Oh, and the heads themselves as well, they look like they should have been part of the original design. Question: How did you eventually seal the air tube going up...

    Elmer's Radial #11

That's a nice variation on Elmer's version Stan. Top notch. I like the simplicity of the stand too. -dennis

An Upshur Farm Engine (first I.C.)

Actually, mine came out a little long. :) Headset problems, no doubt. I looked for a picture that shows the angle I was dealing with but this is the best I could do. Kinda hard to see. There was about a 15 degree angle relative to the head so I punched out the post and put in a new one.

An Upshur Farm Engine (first I.C.)

For the rocker arm post - even though I (think) I had followed the plans exactly, the post seemed to stick out just a little too far. Before you Locktite it in, you may want to check how the rocker and post assembly will interface with the valve stem. Mine still works ok but I would have...

An Upshur Farm Engine (first I.C.)

Looking very nice, Tim. On mine, I sanded the milling marks out of the head before installing the guides. Was a bit easier that way.

    Eye Glasses

There was a test done some time ago where eyeglass prescriptions from all the major suppliers (in the U.S.) were compared for accuracy. Suppliers included LensCrafters, Kaiser, etc. Zenni Optical came out on top. I have about 5 or 6 pairs hanging around here in varying focal lengths. When I...

    Never ceases to amaze me

I've noticed that many of the recent joiners, while new to the forum, certainly aren't new to model engine machining. There are always new ideas and new methods being posted here from both new and longtime members and from those with all levels of experience and that keeps it interesting and...

    Trout's Shop Tour

Thanks guys...surprised to to see this thread pop up again. I noticed yesterday that the video has been viewed over a thousand times and yet some of my engines have only hit in the low hundreds. scratch.gif As it happens, two months ago (same time I retired) the wife decided she wants a new...

    Is It Hot There?

Average temp around Sacramento this time of year is mid-90's. Very often it is over 100 degrees like this coming weekend, we are scheduled for a number of days well over 100. It wouldn't feel right if it was any cooler. It's also why I have my shed air conditioner mounted so that it blows...
