    Designing a Spartan Machine Shop

Thanks for all of the replies. I am processing the information. I definitely won't have my shop finalized this year (or even this decade) but maybe by the end of the year I'll invest in a lathe. It sounds like that is first major tool to become familiar with . Until then I'll keep plugging...

    Found some goddies

For the most part I think that they are unaware that kg is not a unit of weight. This is probably due to the fact that virtually everything at the grocery store has a label that says something like: Net Weight, 5 lb (2.27 kg). The few that know what a Newton is are unable to relate it either...

    Found some goddies

The SI unit of force is the Newton, which is equal to kg*m/s^2 (i.e. force equals mass times acceleration) to find your weight take your mass in kg and multiply it by 9.81 m/s^2 (gravitational acceleration here on earth.)

It's important to remember that kg can not be used to measure weight, which is...

    Junker's diesel engine(1915)

I'm not sure what the manufacturer or model is, but on a tour of a Los Angeles class fast attack sub the diesel backup generator used an opposed piston design. I didn't get to see the main power plant though... that would have required a security clearance and a radiation badge.

    Greetings from Utah!

First of all I have to thank everyone who contributes to this site. I’ve been a regular visitor to the project of the month forum for some time and I am always impressed by what is being built out there. I’m not really a machinist of any type (except wannabe…), but I love building...
