    a different lathe taper attachment?

If you were to search for "tubalcain" on youtube, I am sure he has a video showing his own made taper attachment, made from bar stock. His methods are usually basic and dead accurate, and machiningwise, there isnt much he hasn't done.

    Are my lathe tools strange?

There's 've4y little to see design wise between the 2, the actual block shapes nearly the same , and the locking method appears the same, just a slight difference in the cams on the clamping bolt. I looked up the proper dickson , i gotta say, they look more like the cheaper ones. (L280 SET)

    Are my lathe tools strange?

Yep, i think that style is the dick son style. I'm a bit tired of Harvey Forbes, the stuff they sell is some of the cheapest scrap around but they sell it for normal prices. They do however support their products. Bit hard to take when you see the same toolset for half of what you paid on...

mounting a 5 inch dia. aluminum on mini lathe???

Make up a plate with holes in it that matches the hole pattern of the compressor head, center the holes, and drill a hole in the center of the plate to suit the biggest bit of bar you have spare. Now, tack weld the bar into the center hole, true it up in the lathe ( spin it slowly to check) ...

Atmospheric Intake Valve on "Modern Engines"

Another side issue is that the cam operated valve allows more air fuel mix into the cylinder due to the fact that the atmospheric intake design, the cylinder vacuum has to get to a point where the vacuum has to overcome the spring pressure before thevalve opens, meaning there is a lot of piston...

Any ideas what to do with these?

It would be a waste to not use that longish dovetail for something.

    sieg x3 base dimensions

Yep, just found what you are talking about. Don't know how i missed that before. I musta read that manual a dozen times before i decided and bought the mill. Thanks all for your input.

    sieg x3 base dimensions

I thought about buying the factory stand, but i am not too impressed with the one under my lathe. It does a good job of holding up the lathe, but that's about it.

    sieg x3 base dimensions

It still in the ply box under the plastic transport wrap. By all accounts they are excessively greased at the factory before packaging. It should be ok for a day or 2.

    sieg x3 base dimensions

I'm a bit more than stuck for room at the moment and have just taken delivery of my new X3 mill. I was hoping that someone would be kind enough to show some dimensions for a stand for the mill as I don't have room to unpack it and build a stand at the moment. My intentions are to leave it in...

    cross slide t slots.

Lapping the compound and cross slide helped a lot with cut quality on my 320 , I just used some metal polish similar to brasso and cross quite a bit of elbow grease. I have found the carriage lock screw, I use it regularly anytime I have to do heavy facing cuts. I have been tossing up...

    cross slide t slots.

I have plenty of room, I just need to clear out a few projects first. Rodw , how have you found your 320 in relation to cuts, rigidity, and general operation? Mine has had a fair share of issues that only really bug me, but not bad enough to rattle anyone's cage over. The main one for me is...

    cross slide t slots.

Might be easier just finding the money and just going and buying a mill. (Like someone else did).

    cross slide t slots.

It's a relief to find out others have bolted all sorts of things to their cross slide to mount work pieces on. Making another isn't really an option at the moment as i don't have, or have access to a mill , or dovetail cutters. Aside from that, i have spent quite a few hours lapping this...

    cross slide t slots.

My lathe (AL320g) doesn't have t slots on the cross slide so I was thinking of other job mounting methods. One thought I had was to mount a piece of steel on the cross slide and have a grid of tapped holes (m12) to suit my job holding kit in this piece of steel. Are there any other methods I...

Rust prevention with Lanolin - It's better then oil

The lanolin we have in Australia called lanotec is good stuff , but I find when it dries out a bit, it dries gets pretty tacky. I have changed tack and buy the 5 litre (gallon) and half and half with auto trans fluid . This mix I use for everything, my machinery, my guns, my boat stuff. I...
