    Mill & Lathe

Have been looking for a different mill for a while and had kind of gave up, thinking it would be a long time coming. I haven't picked it up yet but I found one on a guys ranch. He has sold his ranch and wanted to get rid of his mill and lathe as the new owner doesn't want them. ??? So I told him...

    Inspection scope

Knowing that some folks here are in industries that require the use of bore scopes, I have a question. I broke mine that was several years old and would like to replace it with something more state of the art. The one I am looking at is a 679 Starrett. What I like about it is the ability to...

    Stirling Engines

Don't know if this has been posted before or if the gentleman that built these is a member here. I feel these engines are worth a look. They are interesting and very elegant. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KAaUTLQJPk Kenny

    3D scanner

Has anyone seen one of these scanners work? Of course Jay Leno likes it. If you watch the video from his shop they made a D valve for one of his steam engines. https://www.nextengine.com/indexSecure.htm Kenny

    Hot Yellow Balls

After getting new rollers for the hanger doors a few months ago I had time to replace them on the hardest moving side. Of course, the new rollers are much beefier than the ones that were on the door. Now that the door is up in place there was an edge of a bracket about a foot long that was...

    Moving Machines

Made a 200 mile round trip today to pick up a new (to me) little bench top mill that weighs in at #700. The guy told me over the phone no problem, he had an engine hoist and could roll it right up to my pickup. Sounded good to me. After pry baring the little wheels of the hoist over the man door...

    Too much safety

It has been brought to my attention that we at HMEM are over pushing safety. To any members that think we are, I say Thank You for noticing. I am thrilled that the safety area is as active as it is and hope that it stays that way. I am interested in everyones thoughts about too much safety...

    First Aid Kit

What size of first aid kit is in your shops and is it easy to get to? Mine is mounted by the door and I keep an extra quart bottle of hydrogen peroxide on the shelf to flush out cuts. I also keep a bottle of water in case I get dust in my eyes so I can flush them out. Kenny

    rotary Valve Engine

This is what they look like. Back to the crankshafts. After cutting, drilling and pinning the disks, they were milled to look like more like a crankshaft.

    Rotary Valve Engine

After looking at the plans Rick posted I thought it would be a good engine to build. After all, it can be built in a weekend. ;D My goal is to use material and tools at hand. I started with making the crankshaft from round stock in the shop that had all ready been shown to machine poorly. The...

    Drive Safe

I know this is a little OT from shop safety. But be carefull over the holidays. It would be a shame if your brother-inlaw got your lathe and tools. Kenny

    Hot Chips

Just a reminder that when cutting steel, the chips coming off are still getting hotter as the are flying across the shop. Watch for smoke and fire.
