    Henry ford valve

Hi Folks: A fellow modeler told me to take apart an old lawn mower and I would find two gears inside. The number of teeth are not too important but the ratio is. They should be 2 to 1. You may have to do a little modifying but we do that anyway. Mine worked out great. Good luck with your...

    Ford Quadricycle

Thanks Chris: That's a great idea putting two pieces together. I know it's difficult to find a chunk of metal that size. I am enjoying your postings. Your pictures are really worth a thousand words. Best of luck on your project. Jack

Hi Chris: You and your students are doing a great job. I have one question for you just to get an idea of the size of your engine, how big is the flywheel? It is a nice looking piece of work. Thanks for shareing with us. Jack B

Hi all, from the new guy.

Hi Lucas: You have picked a great hobby and this forum is filled with friends that will give you much help. Besides being a machinist all my life I taught metal processing in a Vocational High school shop for 23 years. The most important advise I can give you is to study the safety rules and...

    Team Build 8

Hi Maverick, Dale & Pat: Today I took a closer look at the Jan Ridder engine we have been interested in building. Here are some things that will have to be bought that I think we have to think about, Ball Bearings Graphite to make the piston. By the way if my math is correct it has to be turned...

    Team Build 8

Gail in NM , Thank you for putting that link on my post to my shop. I didn't know how to do it. Hi Pat : I admire people who like to try new things, so I will go along with anything the group decides on. I don't have a metric dial in my shop so I will be busy changing millimeters to inches...

    Team Build 8

Hi : I have been following the thread and if it is OK I will add my two cents. Retiring in 1993 I bring 60 years of machining to the table. Looking at Jan's engine that some of us just got plans for in my opinion it wouldn't be a good choice for a team build. I think it is just to complicated...

    I Broke a Tap

Hi Jack: This will not help with the broken tap but should help to keep you from breaking more. The steel block is about 1 by 2 inches. The holes are the size of the tap bodies. This block and a bit of cutting fluid should keep you from breaking taps. Jack B

    Jack's Shop and Museum

Hi Steamer: The clocks are both reproductions and not antiques. The one near the South Bend lathe cost $2.00 at a yard sale a few years ago. I gave it a tiny squirt of WD-40 and it has been running ever since I got it. I wind it about once a week. Up close you can tell it's a cheap clock. The...

    Jack's Shop and Museum

I have another build that I fiished but haven't run yet. One of my sons who is a computer programmer got extremely interested in models about three years ago. So he asked me if I would let him help get this one going when I finished it. Well we worked one whole day making adjustments but we...

    Jack's Shop and Museum

Hi Brock Yup that's a Henry Ford Plumbing Parts Engine I am working on. I guess I am about 1/2 done. My 1867 Parker vise might be like the one he had in his shop. By any chance did you make one of these engines? Jack

Hi Peter that's one of those yes and no answers. I had not made up my mine what to do with it so for now it just sits there. Jack
