    stepper motor control using arduino

I stopped watching the thread before your post shoe, but I too followed Chucks lead and build a dividing head based on his scrips. I too chose a spindexer as my dividing platform, It was just easier when my milling skills were less than I desired. and when all I really wanted was to play with an...

    New member from Toronto area...

Oh yeah, years ago now. I even posted photos of it here. Subsequently I entirely gutted the electro-mechanical controls and built a new system and installed a 3 phase motor and VFD with DC injection braking. It is so sweet now. Also recently acquired a bridgeport mill and a hydraulic surface...

Some people build Models, others build CNC PLASMA machines

Wow rod, I wish I had seen this thread from the beginning. The person I bought my Milling machine from had a CNC plasma machine in his garage. I got to look at it in detail and decided I'd really like one, one day. I wonder if it's worth it for a smaller table size... versus getting 3/8" plate...

Gone as far as I can

I am glad to hear that you're on the mend. I have enjoyed your work and posts over the years and look forward to having you around a might longer. As a person who lives with pain daily I hope your suffering may soon be eased as you heal.

    Should I buy this?

One of the first things I bought for my lathe was a new quick change tool post... mainly because I didn't have a ton of experience and such posts saved me much time and effort in setting up for various operations. Saves me time and head ache.

I tried high school evening curriculum for that but our high schools abandoned metalworking long ago and our colleges are too expensive for evening classes.

    Bought a new machine yesterday---

Great, that means I can expect that price to come up again. I really want a spindle sander at some point but things keep coming up... My brother just scored 2 Kennedy machinist cases and loads of tooling today that took a chunk of change that I thought would go towards a metal band saw

I have a few plans from text books for old steam engines that I converted to cad files. I planned to convert them and then 3d model the moulds and cores and see how much it will cost to have sets cast in cast iron. That's almost my entire reason for getting into 3D. Now however I may just get 3D...

Amen. I began using DOS based Drafix sketch product in the 1980s. Autodesk bought out the company it was such a threat, then they migrated that DOS based product to windows and lost it's innate simplicity and ease of use. I hung onto my DOS copies and pen plotter set-up for a year as a fall-back...

Exporting exploded views using the animation mode is pretty neat and easy feature. I couldnt hep but try it again on my incomplete electronic indexer based on PF70-5C spin indexer.

Well, that was easy. From finished design in the model mode go to the animation mode. Expand the components tree... control click to select every component that you wish to show up in the animation and output drawing. Go to transform tool in the ribbon menu. Select auto expand all, or just...

A quick search showed me the best method is to make the exploded view in the animation section. I haven't played with that yet

If you're speaking about my work I'll do exploded view later. I'm just finishing up another design at the moment and learning how to output the designs to PDF... The one thing I haven't seen is if there is a simple way to achieve exploded view in the model space without losing your carefully...

Thanks for this link to Brad's channel. I have found that most fusion video producers fly thru actions wayyyy too quickly to follow and take notes, which is just as bad as the low resolution vids.

I guess it comes down to grasping a few main functional concepts from the beginning and knowing how to apply 2d experience. Sketch up killed me. Meanwhile I was able to knock together this plan of a "spindle test plug", ER40 chuck, 1" diameter collect and collet nut in just a couple of hours...

I think I subscribe to all of the above and I'd add Stefan Gotteswinter to the list. AVE has his patter... it's a Canadian thing we learn as kids playing hockey. He is like the Machinist version of Letterkenny

Many large cities have online access to databases and Lynda.com yet users dont know about it. Toronto's public library has Lynda.com so I will have to check out what they have on fusion, since I just downloaded it yesterday to start converting 2D plans I have. I knocked this drawing out today...

Hey DCP, I'm right there with you... My brother was a machinist years ago. I used to do part time work at his employer's shop in the summers like 30 years ago... learned some but not hands on. I use google and youtube... there is tons of content, some of it may be suited to you. I plan on...
