How to create a female taper thread?

Here are pictures! My apologies for not coming back to this thread before now. I was away from home with only a tablet and while I could read your replies I could not post. Thanks for all of the suggestions. No actual, "use x size drill" but clearly it is a rare circumstance. I think I may need...

How to create a female taper thread?

I am replacing the nut; the very complicated male fitting already exists and the setup probably worked because the device is 80 years old. I have read that tapered fittings seal better than parallel. I understand the timing issues with making the taper tighten at the right moment. My question...

How to create a female taper thread?

Can anyone clue me in on how to use a tapered tap? The thread is BSBT 5/16”. I have not yet seen the tap, does one act in the same way as a parallel tap? Use the same drilling size? I need to make a blind nut with a hole in the blind end for the flared pipe to extend through. Best Chris

    Quarter Scale Merlin V-12

A Loctite rep came to a club I was a member of to give a lecture about twenty years ago. His message to us cheapskates was; Permatex is Loctite, they renamed it so they could keep the top end of the market with Loctite but not miss out on the people who would or could not pay so much.

    Taig. Dirty word?

I think Taig is more of an issue in Northern Ireland than in Ireland itself. The most amusing example I have heard was the Mitsubishi Pajero. Wouldn't fly in Mexico and further south. Also the first time I saw a Honda Lead(a small scooter) I saw it as the metal rather than being in front.

Is there any greater pleasure in life than another post by Mayhugh1 or River gypsy...

Thanks for your kind words. In relation to your harp project, around 1980 somewhere I read a book, (might have been called Jupiter's Travels) about a guy who rode a Triumph motorcycle around the world, a great exercise in patience. The thing I recall most clearly was his declaration, "the...

    Button die question...

Phil, Thanks for the thought. It is a M2.5 die and the material is steel, and it is true I was trying to make the thread as close to 2.5 as possible in the hope of making a stronger thread. I think imperial in small sizes, so the turned size was 98 thou. I will try it again with about 95thou...

    Button die question...

I have a smalal button die which works perfectly until I back it off at which point it destroys the thread. I have looked closely at the cutting edges and it looks OK, but something is wrong. Is this a common thing with a typical cause..?

2700lb lathe boo boo by shipping company

I was not there for the main event but saw some of the ramifications. On a gas platform off the NZ coast decades ago they were installing a new pump. The pump was made from phosphor bronze (because it doesn't spark when you hit it, handy on a gas platform) and aside from costing a fortune, it...

    CAD to CAM conversion

Sheetcam doesn't have 3D capacity but it is not very expensive. It also has terrific support. Emailed replies from the author come within 24 hrs and usually sooner. He will write a post processer for any non compliant machine. The program is being continually developed; its about twice the size...

    file cleaning

When my files become clogged with solder I put them under the stereo microscope) and chase the grooves individually with the end of a scalpel blade. It takes about 6 ot 7 minutes to do the whole file. When I get them clogged with brass it takes a little longer. The stereo microscope has...
