    With any accustic insturment vibration is everything. This the steel would probably vibrate more than the alum.

    I did some resurch on Sylvester Roper's steam cycle but I could never find enough good information or prints. I've thought about it sence 1986; that one looks nice, the only thing I can see is that the price of brass and copper have sky-rocketed making something nice like that almost imposible.

    thin naga hide glued face to face with the clothe facing out might give the apperance of a flat belt.

    I'm building a flame eater and that is where I got my graphite; It's expensice as heck! Well the shipping was almost as much as the graphite. I was wondering if carbon block would work if you used a hole saw to get a blank and if you could trun and bore it? I sawed a piece and faced the end...

    just thinking; you could make a mold and pour babit in making the whole bearing babbit. Just don't go crazy tightning the bolts.

    I've used delron in the past, works good for awhile but it will chalk up, dry out, and get brittle if exposed to sun light.

    yes, that would be good to use. I re-babbidted a bearing for my old lathe. The hardest thing I had to deal with was the damming material; as the babbit will run like water when its ready to pour and your shell is hot. I bought some stuff on the internet called "babbit rite". Having never...

    Hole in cylinder wall

    depending on where the hole is located you could drill and tap the area and thread a piece of brass and screw it in then cut it off just a little long and peen the end so to swell the brass to swedge it in place and dress off what has come through the cylinder wall.
