    7 1/4" Mikado Loco

A tiny bit more info.... The former owner of Superscale has passed away a year ago. There seem to be negotiations with a buyer. No News about any deal. Someone seems to sell the superscale couplers now, probably has bought the Patterns. Doesn't look well for buying superscale stuff..... Mike

    Scale EMD 567 or 645

Well, for the commonly used 7.25"/184mm gauge the scale is 1:8. The 7.5" gauge is only used in several Areas of the US (eastern area?) and exists nowhere else in the world. Mike

pipe threads MTP MPT NPT ME METP wtf

Hi All, at present I am pretty much confused about threads. Even Nelson Riedel in his excellent Website talks sometimes about MTP, MPT, NPT. Which are real, and what is just misspelled? Are there Websites with thread data? Does anyone know who in Europe sells MPT and MTP Tools? Mike

    Material choice

Hi Dale, its not possible to answer if You don't tell which material it is on which the crosshead slides. Anyway, dont use mild steel n mild steel, that makes for poor wearing properties. Mike

Fitting a rods in plastic gears

Hi jokmu, I would file a flat area on the rod for the setscrew. Additionally I would add some Loctite to the Joint. But check before if the type of Loctite is suitable to Your POM. Both methods combined should be sufficient for Your low torque application. Mike

    Silver solder source

Thats right, since some time in 2014 it is illegal in the EU to manufacture, sell or use in commercial/industrial environment Cd-containing solder. Of course everyone can use it in his homeshop on his own risk. There are only few exceptions if no alternative exists and there is no risk to...

    Frustrations

Hi Tin, its a pretty old post, but I'm tempted to correct it. If I understand You right, You are not correct. There are to standards for this matter, international standards. They are called ISO A and ISO E. A for American, E for European. ISO A is what You US folks are used to. In ISO E the...

    3D Modeling Software

At first, I admit I have never worked with any Alibre version. But after some positive comments on forums I got interested in Alibre 2 years ago. I did a thorough look through their websites. What I found out was that IMO there are too many essential features for 3D modeling that are only...

    Measurement equipment

Agreed. Except the 3€ plastic ones I use to check the size of screws. With my best brand quality ones measurements are repeatably correct within +- 0.001" When working on the lathe, my practice is similar. When machining good fits, I turn them down to 0.3-0.4mm oversize using a caliper and then...

    Metric Conversion for Technical Drawings

Basically, JW :( Just imagine, You supply the 4 inch sliding bearing, and I supply the 100mm shaft. Do You think these two parts will form a winning team ?:o Mike

    Designing a crank case

Hi Mitch, looks like You want to go a hard way. I can't give You much real advice, just a few tips. And I dunno these HPI baja sets. 1. Till is right, converting these cylinders to 4 cycle doesn't look promising. Besides many other problems, 2-cycle cylinders/pistons are designed to have...

    Metric Conversion for Technical Drawings

Hello members, I don't think there's a really easy way to do this conversion. Living in the metric world I have to do this conversion always from imperial to metric, therefore my experience with doing it in the reverse direction is nil. There are proposals to convert 1 inch to 16, 24 or 32...

    For sale?

Hi Tin, IMO the staff response in this case was reasonable, though I would want the moderators to use their delete post/user rights very restrictive. For sure there are people around who try to make a commercial profit by selling in this forum. But someone selling a lot of items at one time...

    Some lathe questions...

Hello, I usually use a 12" steel scale to measure the distance between crosslide and cutting edge, knowing that on my lathe it has to be 112mm. You just need to measure the distance once with a toolbit which is exactly on the center. This distance never changes on Your lathe, just write it...

    Cylinder Hones

Hello all, I agree with Till. Manyin this forum are confused in the difference between honing and lapping. Nearly every homemade honing tool is in fact a lap.Read Tils definitions again please. As for brake cylinder hones, I would call them flex hones. IMO they are unfit for precision and...
