    Lathe dvd

Have watched over three hours of lathe operating instructional DVD. They use a South Bend similar to the one my uncle just gave me. Only a little bit of brain fry, but I'm enjoying it and learning a lot. Host's name is Darrel Holland.

Low RPM, high torque for rc car

I'm looking for plans for a low RPM engine that has high Torque for an RC car. Not interested in going fast, but want a more scale sound than something screaming along at 15k-25k rpm. I was thinking of a diesel with a long stroke. Are their plans that exist?

    Turntable

I finished my manual turntable, or rotary table. There is no build log because I am never certain I will finish whatI start, and there are only four parts. I drilled the holes in the side to fit the chuck tightening bars that came with my Taig lathe. The top surface holes are tapped and...

    Flex shaft runout.

I have a flex shaft carver I bought from Harbor Freight. I checked the runout on the chuck, and after some tweaking it's about 0.0015. On a bit shaft about twice that. I use this to drill off center holes by mounting it on the slide on my taig lathe. Is this an acceptable amount of runout...

Buy American, or save some money

When it comes to tools, I generally follow the mantra "buy the best you can afford". Well afford and best can have different meanings when money is tight. My current dilemma involves the purchasing of a mini-mill. On the one hand I would like to buy a Taig. I do smaller work, and already...

Do I go single or multiple?

I n my unasked opinion, multi-cylinder model IC engines just seem to win the coolness contest over their single cylinder brethren. They do however, look much more difficult to build. Not that practical is really the issue with model engines, but is there any advantage (power to weight...
