    Wobbler from John-Tom plans

This is my next project but its taking some time and I've made only a few parts up to now.

    Wobbler from John-Tom plans

My first finished project. I have a Myford ML7 built in 1953 with a vertical slide I use for milling. I was brought up Imperial but latterly I have become more familiar with metric as I ride more modern Japanese, German and British motorcycles, so all my tools, apart from the lathe are also...

    Workshop Damp/humidity

I live in the UK and use ACF50 spray on my motorcycle to prevent metal corrosion and on the electrics. Most bikers who use it rave about it. I found it also works on my ML7 that I keep in a detached garage that gets so damp a piece of paper left on the bench overnight goes soft. I am not...

    Model Shock Absorbers

I fly 50cc powered rc planes and have never used shock absorbers as the landing gear and the tyres absorb the load. The wire, or dural undercarriage is very forgiving and inflated rubber tyres, rather than foam rubber tyres will help even the heavily constructed high wing loaded model warplanes...

    The beginners tool box

That looks really useful Steve but I have no idea what it does, even though you have described it. As a newby I am always looking for tools that increase my accuracy and would welcome a description of how it is used. Being a bit on the thick side of dim a couple of pictures might help me as...

    turning plans

My old Myford is almost 60 years old and I find I can do most things with a vice or rotary table attached to the vertical slide that I can't do just with the lathe - it just takes a bit more patience kind regards Peter

Free plans for a larger, simpler, beam engine

The difficulty with multiplying by 25.4 comes when I try to find a 3.175mm drill amongst my tools. Drill conversion seems, to a newby like me, to be virtually impossible. The 'numbered' drill sizes mean nothing to me as I have a garage full of metric tools and don't know the equivalents

    Papplewick Pumping Station UK

I rode the bike down to this Victorian pumping station, because it was in steam, today. Here are a few pics. There are 6 boilers, three of which are in use at a time. The flywheels are 20ft diameter and weigh 24 tons, the beams 25ft long weigh 13 tons each. The pumping capacity was 1.5m gallons...

small servo operated air tight valve

Would the kind of tap used on a small motorcycle/scooter petrol tank work? They operate by rotating the lever through 90 deg which would be easily achieved by a decent RC plane servo.

    Brian builds Atkinson Engine

I would have to agree that the bore size isn't going to change anything, unless the compression in the current set up is so low that it is insufficient to cause an explosion, hardly likely unless there are leaking valves. I would also check the means of providing ignition, in terms of the...

    Show Us Your Lathe

Hi I spent some time checking it over before I bought it and I think it has either had fairly light use, or has been looked after and maintained. I spent some time stripping, cleaning and setting up the slides to make sure they were adjusted properly when I got it home and I'm very happy with...

Marine engine - universal joint to prop shaft?

Thanks for the comments. I hadn't considered the prop being obstructed under water and reading that a rubber coupling is used makes sense to prevent damage. I like the idea of a simple mechanical solution though and I suppose the simplest is tilting the engine! Kind regards Peter

Marine engine - universal joint to prop shaft?

Thanks Leonard I'm building a single oscillator as a first engine and have plans and materials for a small vertical engine with a 4" flywheel, but for a boat I was thinking more of a small V twin/V four oscillator. I like the fact that it would fit in a small space to power a boat about 4 feet...
