    Seeking Stirling fan plans

Thanks for that. As the casting kits are out of stock I'll look into the book. I can see though if me dad does decide to build it there will be many trips to my place to use my larger lathe and milling machine.

    Seeking Stirling fan plans

Hi Everyone, I've been AWOL for some time now, mainly due to the fact I've picked myself up a couple of BSA motorcycles I've been restoring that have overtaken my workshop and left me no bench space for model building. A few months ago I gave my dad my spare lathe, an old Sherline that was a...

    Kenneth Wells TE Drawings

This is all the drawings required to build the Kenneth Wells traction engine. The author gives permission for the drawings to be copied but not?the photos or text on how to build it (Which is fair enough). You will notice on some pages it is half blank, that is where I've had to blank out photos...

OZ - US exchange rate, I'm excited!

You need to speak nicely to someone in the US. They have flat rate parcels in the US. the biggest which is around 13 x 13 x 5 1/2 inches costs $50, but gets to your front door in 6 workinf days and can hold a whooping 9Kg. I recently bought a number of things off ebay and had them sent to a...

OZ - US exchange rate, I'm excited!

The Australian dollar has just bcome worth more than the US dollar. This is a massive improvement from a year or two ago when the OZ dollar only got $0.65 US. Look out ebay US and US tool shops as I know where a lot of my Christmas presents will be coming from this year. :big:

    Finger Plate - Vee cutting?

On my finger plate I got away with using a slot saw to cut a slot 2mm deeper than I wanted the V and then used a four sided file to carefully file the V. It worked for me as I didn't need the V too big as I too couldn't locally find a cutter for my mill to cut the V

    Kenneth Wells Stationary engine drawings

No, the books are very hard to come by. Every few weeks I do a search for it, as I know several people that want one. I probably find 2 or 3 a year via ebay and Abebooks http://www.abebooks.co.uk/ But don't know of any around at the moment. Be sure to check the SBN number matches the one above...

    Kenneth Wells Stationary engine drawings

Hi all, I haven't fallen off the face of the earth, I've just been busy with a number of other things, including a case flue (Don't know if it was bird flue) that kept me in bed for a week. But I was recently asked if I could upload the drawings of Kenneth Wells Stationary Engine, which I just...

    workshop music

I used to play music in my workshop, but after the day at work, coming home and having the kids all screaming around the house I've started to enjoy the silence in my workshop when I haven't got any machinery running

    Three toads in the hole

Bummer. As mklotz says if you don't already have a tap holder that you can use on the lathe or drill press they are simple to make and well worth the effort. Another point to remember is you don't need 80% or 90% thread engagement for most things and a lot of charts for drilling and tapping...

I don't know all the technical terms, but basically normal oil will get washed out of the cylinders easily by the steam while steam oil will stay and lubricate for longer. Use engine oil on your axels and crank pins and steam oil on the piston and portface. A little will go a long way.
