    Edge Finding Mystery

After saving up for a long time, I might myself a Bridgeport clone with a DRO. I've run across something weird going on when I use an edge finder or wiggler. I have trammed the head of the mill to the vise and it is within .001" in both directions. I have checked the DRO against the dials and...

    Single Point Threading Help

Well I cut a good thread last night using just the cross slide. That eliminated the gearing setup, leadscrew, tool presentation etc. I'm thinking using the tailstock center will eliminate the problem with using the compound. I have not had time to confirm this yet. Using the cross slide...

    Single Point Threading Help

OK, I checked my pitch with an indicator and it was right. I also checked the 30 degree angle and it seems to be right. I cut some more threads.....the nut still won't go on. I've attached a microscope pic of the threads. The profile looks more like a check mark than a v to me. But I don't...

    Mitutoyo Mics "Stuck"

I soaked them in 3-in-1 oil for about a week. Then I checked the locking mechanism and it was OK. They were still locked up......as a last ditch effort I turned the spindle with a pair of channel locks. It didn't take much force and they started turning. I don't think this would have worked had...

    Dalton Lathe

Do any of you have any experience or knowledge of Dalton lathes. Apparently they were manufactured around 1910 -1920ish. I've run across one that has been restored. From the pictures it looks like a nice lathe. I just wanted to see if anyone knew anything about them. Thanks, Mark

    Glad I Found This Website

Hello, I bought a Sherline lathe 20 years ago with the intentions of building small steam/air engines. Somehow I never got around to it. Well I dug the lathe out the other day.....a little WD-40, some scotch bright pads and elbow grease and all was well. I received my metal for my first engine...
