    Hello

@spindly57 I've gotten a lot of ire for it, but if you're leaning more towards watchmaking size to steam engines that can go on a bookshelf, Sherline is having a 20% off sale during December. I made wooden bases with handles for both machines. I can pull them out of the cupboard and on to the...

    Experimental Flash Steam and others

@Richard Hed Guaranteed, but if you order now, a thighmaster is included to keep legs a safe distance from the P8 compass radiation during flight.

@CFLBob Same here. You sent me o'er the edge. Can't beat the bang for the buck on the atom.

    Hello

Hello, I don't know much about the Smithy line, but looks robust and able to handle most of what I see on this forum. Maybe I'd ask, what are you looking at possibly making with it?

    Horizontal Air Cooled Engine

Something to add to the insert plug option mentioned might be to make it an interference fit. Similar to how valve guides go in with some heat and dry ice.

Ladies, Gentlemen, behold, the Vapordyne.... I want to fashion one after Bill Lear to power my pneumo- brakes, actuatored by the northombobulator lever on my Dunlop equipped Spitfire MkiX and cooled by Tecalemit-Kilfrost-Sheepbridge Stokes fluid through a handpump near the gear lever and of the...

Yes the Rhino 7 demo. I'm nearing the end of my 3 months. I'm glad I took time to learn it. It's helped a lot to sharpen up on surfacing theory by forcing me to learn the hard way. They still design some snazzy stuff with Rhino.

Chinese 4 stroke model camshaft repair advice

Camshaft lobes and lifters typically have the highest contact forces on an engine. It is said in legends that oil turns to the consistency of nylon under those pressures. That run time seems high for that little engine, so not too shabby. I'd probably be cleaning those lobes before each run and...

For transferring raster, I've been demoing a free plugin for Rhino called Vectorizer. With base settings, it'll convert an image to splines using RGB. A quick extrude gives me the thickness. I can then resize Dₒ (outer Ø) for that gear and it's good to go. I've been on the edge on Alibre. I...

DXF is a problematic format, with a dozen different versions. Step 214 and Iges are the most common for Bsurfaces.

I was looking at the specs between versions. Atom will import .step while the pro version will import Rhino 3dm, IGES, and parasolid. And yeah, for little engines Alibre seems to be the better ticket. I can't say anything about CAM options. Edit: I was looking here at beefier CAM packages they...

Nice result! Reminds me of the Woodward prop governors on Pratts that have replaced the original cast versions. I'm wondering if there are corrosive type etchers (feric chloride?) that would produce that sandcast finish, at least on aluminum. Did you run 2 intersecting drilled holes between...

@Jasonb Yeah I've been looking at expert. @L98fiero Definitely, I like both MOI and Rhino and both have great value for their respective price (perpetual too).

Nice video. Some block+fillet "CAD Machining" pitfalls can be solved with lofts and sweeps. I tried some of their surfacing tools, but understandably they're kept pretty basic with a default Rhino import option. Kind of a niche thing too. Sheetmetal looks really good too. Not quite for engine...

How much does it cost to add CAM if you go the Pro route? Odd that it's only included in the workshop edition.

Spent an hour watching this guy catchin' deers last weekend (likely a big yote, not sure). I've had a wolf run past me at 30 yards. Packs here can travel up to 40 miles in one day! I use NX (+Mach3) at work and even the base pricing is astronomical. I've never tried solid edge but knowing...

I ran the demo for ten minutes. Super easy to jump right in. Sketches, extrusions, big fillets were easy. Inside filet corners solved nicely. I managed to break it at this point, which is understandable (it approaches a singularity, see blue selection). Locked up trying to solve (Ctrl+Alt+Del)...

The filleting kernels are where the real money is at and nearly always behind those awful subscription paywalls. These are some of my hobby-level experiences: -Shapr3D has probably the best budget fillet solver, but it's also on subscription (insert Monty Python French guards booing). -F360...
