    MW54 turbine

wanted to build one of these years ago..... and that may be a problem. Wren turbines went under last year and stopped selling parts for home builders years before that. what you could buy was just what they had left. as they moved on to better turbines the MW54 was now obsolete and stopped...

    Attempt at a coolant mister

think the stuff i have is 1 part water 30-40 oil. but yes, normal rate. I use more of the white stuff as tend to open the taps up (as they say) the air blows the chips out of deep pockets etc. WD40 lasts for months as it only drips in the air flow every few seconds and works more of a lubricant...

    Attempt at a coolant mister

got one of these a few years back, never could get the thing to work well. worked better with the coolant tank level with the nozzle. seemed it didn't like sucking up the coolant from any height. if it was higher than the nozzle it would siphon out the coolant. plus when it did work it would...

    Z-axis motor

For comparison. I have an RF45. on the Z there is a NEMA 34 1200oz stepper running on 61.5v. ball screw is C5 2205 . ball nut has over sized balls. when it had dove tails on the Z the head was counterbalanced with about 30Kg of weights, rapids of 3500mm/sec. I now have linear rails on the Z...

    gear cutters?

we have success... got in the shed this morning and gave the new cutter ago. mounted a mild steel blank. NOT EN16, slowed the cutter down to 280rpm or 10hz not keen on going lower as cooling for the motor may be a problem. redid the code to 30mm/min. 8 minutes later i had a cut gear :-) the...

    gear cutters?

Its looking like I've been a bit of a pleb. I wouldn't run a 2 inch end mill that speed so why would i run this cutter that fast. new one turned up. will have another go Thursday. over the weekend was looking up how to make your own involute gear cutter... just in case... interesting read...

    gear cutters?

not going to use the EN16. both gears should be mild steel, with one being case hardened. ill order the gear i killed today and have another go Thursday. DOC is 1.22mm. ironic thing is that i opted to get the cutters and have a go my self as the gears i need are £130.

    gear cutters?

one cutter is 57.5mm. the other one should be the same, but as I said the teeth are about .5mm of centre. Both have 12 teeth. the arbour has no run out.

    gear cutters?

thanks for the reply. The first steel was EN16. then ali and last mild steel. They cut the Ali fine at 100mm/min and 1000rpm. the Mild steel was about 400rpm 20mm/min. The cutters have HBM written on them. don't know where they are made and I'm not going to name the place I got them from on...

    gear cutters?

thought I would post this before I give them a phone..... Need to cut some gears, not done this before so it may be something I'm doing, the cutters are 48dp N06. N03. The material I'm using is EN16. The second the cutter touched the metal all the teeth striped. I thought it may be the...

    RF 45 CNC Upgrade

can give you some pointer as to what my RF45 has, but all parts came from the UK. Z axis 1290 oz stepper 22mm class 5 screw over sized balls in nut. has no backlash. X-Y axis 960oz stepper 16mm calss 5 screw over sized balls in nut. getting about .03mm (.001") backlash think this is coming from...

    myford mg12 cylindrical grinder

as we have a few people with MG12's. do any of you guy's have some form of filter on you coolant? when i got mine, there was a big tank bolted to the side of the base. the coolant would over flow through two pipes into this tank where it would then be pumped back up the the wheel. Looking all...

    myford mg12 cylindrical grinder

sorry for the delay........ I haven't taken the main spindle out, but it moved after i rebuilt the whole machine. then noticed i hadn't put the screws back in. It looks like the spindle is in a sleeve that you take out in one piece as unit. Slides out the wheel end.
