    Weiss mill issue.....

If you look up in the quill you should see a key, see if that's stopping it at that point.

Added DRO and power feed to 8x30 mill

It's been some years since I've posted here and thought I'd posted my DRO install here back in 2010 (so i just found out googling lol) but evedently not. I really like you install and power feed, it is a whole new world ( I installed the Y and Z axis to my machine as the X axis come standard on...

Restoring, finishing and upgrading a Dore Westbury Mk1 milling machine

Looks like your enjoying the journey, just be careful heating cast iron machine parts as it can warp them. I have blackened bolts for many years but always use a few litres of old engine oil to dunk the bolt in.

    Request to all members

Thanks Steve, This made me think of another thread that was just recent about selling plans. If some one was posting lots of pictures and selling plans the money would/could be used for things like this. A lot of people forget about the cost people pay to share their projects and pictures...

    Tooling: what's really out there?

Nice videos, thanks. Buying tooling like this for the home shop is sort of like buying a nascar to do the local shopping. Sure the feeds and speeds are nice to look at, but totally unpractical for the home shop one offs. Like said earlier, HSS tooling is the way to go for home shops with carbide...

12v Drill hacked to powerfeed for Mini Mill

I agree, just start a paypal dispute and get you full money back as what you got is not what you paid for. I have had 100% success with getting back what I wanted with the few problems I have had over the years. Dave

    DRO for knee mill

The DRO has rotary capability on the 5th axis, but I am using it on the ram as it's a knee mill. This way I can throw the Y number into to the calculator and subtract or add the ram, then put that number back into the Y. It would be good if they had summing of the Y and B (5th) and the Z and A...

    Levels of precision

I posted this up on another forum a few years back, and thought it might help be of interest in this thread. I have a few digital levels and angle gauges and over time have wondered how they compare to normal and precision machinist levels. The standard type Stabila builders levels work out to...

    DRO for knee mill

Yeah and no more backlash to worry about with counting hand wheels. I just thought I would mention those points to make your system last longer. I know with me things are are one off purchase and I cant afford to be buying them twice. Talking about buying, I fitted a 5 axis readout to my mill...

    DRO for knee mill

I think the forum resizes the pictures as they look fine. With the knee cable, if it's toward the bottom it acts as a drip relief, where the way it is now any oil or coolant etc will run strait to the reader head. The cable is usually looped at the bottom and then cable tied to the bracket...

    DRO for knee mill

You did a great job on the mounting brackets considering this is your first one, I bet it has taken your machining to another level. Just a few tips, 1 You need to turn the scale around on the knee so the cable exits toward the bottom.in the manual it should tell you how to reverse the scale...

    Ford pulling out of Australia

I don't think Holden will be far behind them, there is already talk of off shore manufacturing. People will buy there KIA's, Sangyongs, etc, then complain latter there is no quality in cars, but they will then have no choice because the quality ones will be long gone. Dave

    DRO for knee mill

We all like pictures, and it might help someone down the track. I have high praise for the guy that sells Sino on ebay. I have also read about other guys having good experience with him. It works out a lot cheaper buying through him, from memory the 3 axis is around $520 delivered and the 2...

    DRO for knee mill

No problem and I am glad it helped. Just a tip, If you go to Google and type in "milling machine DRO knee scale" or "milling machine DRO install" Then select images you will get a lot of pictures. If I am searching something I always go that way first. Please don't get me wrong I don't mind...
