Class 12.9 alloy steel on connecting rod

I don't see why it would damage your threads if they are using the same torque as before. Not sure how 12.9 compare but arp high tensile bolts are used in aluminium rods. The book Four-stroke performance tuning recommends loctite on the fasteners on the big end. What engine is it that you have?

    Building the Lynx15

Thanks for the series, have been fun to watch both the success and failures. Hope to see a running video soon! But I guess it's up to the postman when it happens.

    Movie Mechanics Spoiler Syndrome

The loom in 2008 wanted action movie was something that did trouble my mind. How can a regular loom miss weaving? Doesn't know a lot about textile manufacturing but it seems impossible. Silly movie anyway.

Looking for a decent mini lathe in EU

Yes that's some good points. The open bearings he uses does also seem to be a minus. If I will be able to solve some of these problems will show in the future. I use linera rails for it. I thought a round bed lathe would be pretty cool. A big filled steel tube should have some rigidity, But you...

Looking for a decent mini lathe in EU

"I am tempted to go with 3D print shell + reinforced concrete way, like this guy, except for using a larger spindle, steel ways (maybe SBR20 rails or similar), and adapt some carriage to it." That's what I'm planning to do but with the 20mm spindle as in the video. How good or bad it is I'll...

Looking for a decent mini lathe in EU

As you said many new lathes seems to be the same with just different branding. Have you looked at shops in Poland? I would guess they have some shops. If not Germany have for sure. I don't think you will find anything new that's made in Europe with your budget. So I will probably be more or...

    Movie Mechanics Spoiler Syndrome

Same with the lack of period correct machines. Like how they drive around in 30s cars in a movie that's in the early 20s. Or all those western movies where they have Winchester 94s while it is supposed to be a few decades earlier... Same with civil war movies where they are using centerfired...

    A Unique Twin IC Engine

Thanks for sharing. That valve train is pretty neat for sure. Looks like he's turning the engine the wrong way when demonstrating it, at least if the lower valve is intake. With atmospheric intakes you could also drive two cylinders with one push/pull rod.

    Monoblock sidevalve from billet?

Just some ramblings I wanted share with you all. Many old side valves seems to be made as monoblock head/cylinders. Was thinking about how this could be made without making a massive or bad combustion chamber. Maybe intersecting with two t slot cutters, but that would make the combustion...

    Solenoid diesel injection pumps

"As for my dream of 5 cylinders, that would mean that there would always be a cylinder in each stage of the engine cycle and if there is enough mass in the webs, the flywheel would not need to be very big." Wouldn't the same be true for a 3 cylinder engine? A 5 cylinder is cooler sure but a...

    Solenoid diesel injection pumps

Maybe this is irrelevant but I did read though the book Experimental flash steam chapter about pumps just now. (Haven't looked in this book for years so that was fun!) While they are bigger than this application there are no specific mention about tight tolerances on the plungers/pistons. The...

    Solenoid diesel injection pumps

https://www.disa.it/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/01HystoryOfDieselFuelInj.pdf On page 3 fig 5 is a system I wrote about. But instead of a wedge you use a programmable solenoid.

    Solenoid diesel injection pumps

As you are not using a helix cut off type of pump you don't need a plunger to cylinder sealed finish. A o ring in the cylinder as some steam boiler feed pumps should be good enough. Making the pump itself a easy build. Controlling the stroke and timing for fuel metering will be done with the...

    Solenoid diesel injection pumps

Sounds like a very interesting build in my opinion. Some of my thoughts. You may need a crosshead with that big stroke to bore ratio. At 1000rpm and a injection cycle of 40 degrees you will have about 6.6 milliseconds of injection time. 40 degrees may be a bit long especially for low rpm? So...

1953 Ford standard transmission (1/3 scale)

Looking good! Did you also make a model with straight cut gears? Also how does one make the gears end up on the same centre to centre distance? I did try to make a cad model of the webster and I think I followed the gear specs quite well. But the gear axles didn't end up I the same place as in...

    Piston ignition points?

https://www.pattakon.com/pattakonFly.htm This guy has a bunch of different 2 stroke designs. Haven't seen one fly though. If a opposed 2 stroke is built like 2 normal ones then I don't see how it wouldn't work like a normal one if that makes sense... So maybe a good starting point for you? If...

    economical materials

Steel alloys is used for high temp/pressure. Stanley firetube boilers was also made steel with wire warped around it. Historically wrought iron has been used for boilers. Copper have better thermal conductivity and is probably better for condensers, but increased area with steel/iron will give...

Engine for Rumely model F oil pull tractor

Nice build! Could someone explained the valve train of this engine? In the second post there's a picture, but if I see it right the cam will push the rocker away from the valve? It needs to pull the pushrod. I'm confused...
