Where to buy acrylic sheet in the US?

Hi Guys, I didn't realise that it was coated with a plastic protective film. All the stuff I have and have seen has been a paper based protection.

Where to buy acrylic sheet in the US?

All I've ever done to remove old protective paper is hot water and detergent. Let it soak for a while then it just turns into mush.

Putting some grip (stippling) on an aluminium drive pulley.

Hi Terry, I saw a guy loose most of the fingers on one hand whilst changing a planer blade and pulling the drive belt with the other. Not very pretty at all ! the blood stains were there for quite a while. I once saw a lathe operator drop a spanner whilst the lathe was running. It landed on...

Where to buy acrylic sheet in the US?

Hi Tim, An old flat screen TV or laptop screen might provide what you need ! I've broken a couple up and recovered sheets the size of the screen and one piece 3 m thick and another 2 mm thick. One was clear with a grid of tiny dots across the surface the other is translucent white plastic and...

Hello and it's time to build something

Hi Guys, I've not seen that technique before, and whilst I can understand how it works I don't know if it would be suitable for closing a crack in a casting.

    Yet Another Webster Begins

Hi Guys, I've seen old printer paper drive wheels used on a mandrel for that task. I'm thinking of the plastic rubber covered type like those used in HP desk top printers.

Putting some grip (stippling) on an aluminium drive pulley.

You wouldn't use a graver without a tool rest ! The issue is not what was done but how it was done and published in a video ! Like others I have seen some horrific injuries caused by failing to recognise the dangers involved. Using a file on an object in a rotating chuck is often done, but...

Putting some grip (stippling) on an aluminium drive pulley.

No ! I see someone that is so full of himself that he is blind to the consequences !

Putting some grip (stippling) on an aluminium drive pulley.

Guys, you are missing the point ! It is not a safe practice and it has no place in a video that is going to be seen by many people that will think that it is OK to do things that way. The fact that it was a tiny wheel is not the point !

    Yet Another Webster Begins

Hi Bob, Guys, Yes it will work, though you would be better off with the proper material. I've used a synthetic material with success.

Hello and it's time to build something

Hi Graham, Thank you, I couldn't remember the name. Yes "Metalock" :) Their training guys came and spent a couple of days with the firm I was with, my boss and mentor was an old guy that had been doing furnace welding for about 20 odd years or so. It was him that got me into a collage to...

Hello and it's time to build something

Metal Stitching is exactly that ! A method of joining two pieces of metal together. In the context that I was referring to where you have a crack in an engine block made from cast iron and the only way to repair that crack was to heat the casting up so that the crack could be welded up. The...

    Some pics of my workshop

I have several commercial variable voltage variable current power supplies, the one I'm using for the mill table drive is this one, but you can use anything that can supply DC at couple of amps and can be varied from a couple of volts to about 15V. These two pictures show the no load running...

Hello and it's time to build something

Hi Basil, Guys, The general problem with castings, depending upon size, is the amount of time they take to cool, particularly cast iron. As they cool they change shape in various ways. For small castings just a few pounds I would say not, they are unlikely to move now. The real issue is when...

Bought a cheap Chinese Digital Micrometer, here's a bit of a review -

Hi Jim, The key is for removing the battery cover to replace the 2032 battery, and the ball cap is for measuring tube wall thickness !

Hi Henniel, Guys, At this point I think that I should apologize for hijacking this thread ! I really think that it ought to have gone into its own thread. Maybe one of the moderators should move these posts referring to the "Mill Table Drive" into its own thread. Thanks for understanding.

    Some pics of my workshop

Hi Simon, Some more pictures to complete the wiper motor modifications. These pictures show the splined end of the wiper motor shaft before being cleaned. The bronze bush is pressed into the cast housing and the edge of the hole is crimped over to prevent the bush from coming out or moving...

    Some pics of my workshop

Hi Simon, Here are some pictures of the "Trico" window screen motor that I used. This is a picture of the wiper motor that I used. Notice the arm which drives the wiper blades. Apart from the nut the only other thing that holds the arm to the drive shaft is some splines. That shaft was...

    Some pics of my workshop

Hi Simon, I have a variable voltage variable current DC power supply. I used to monitor the current drawn when machining things. Most of the time the wiper motor runs at 5 to 10 volts and rarely draws more than 2.5 amps. I did modify the wiper motor by stripping the socket and connectors from...

Putting some grip (stippling) on an aluminium drive pulley.

That depends upon how much you value parts of your anatomy ! Personally I think that it is wrong to pass on these dangerous techniques to those who may not know any better ! Now if the video showed the job done safely it would be a different matter.
