There’s more to it, as there always is. It’s amazing what people create by having the gumption to dive in and tackle the learning issues as they come up. MXWelder has his head on straight and knows what he is about. I am glad to have the opportunity to help him a bit. Hopefully I can help others...

Nobody is asking for someone elses entire loco to be redrawn. That’s just not a very likely scenario. Entire redraws are more likely only people who have their own engine design either on paper, or possibly modelled using Fusion or whatever. Anyone who is adjusting an stp file or indeed setting...

The customer and I go through all those kinds of details to figure out what it is that they need. I doubt if a complete redraw and remodel of existing designs (by others) is going to be a very frequently required service. Usually there is a specific need or small amounts of parts that need...

SW does come with a CAM module - if you choose to add it in (and pay for it), but as you say, that is off topic. I paid a significant amount to have this thread as a site sponsor - so I would appreciate this thread not going further off topic. I’m offering very low rates to help model engineers...

Yes it will be a very enjoyable build. Once again thanks for the channel shout out - always appreciated.

Ah ha! Found your build thread. Enjoyed the video the other day. 👍👍

    Stuart Number 9 Engine

Nice approach on that custom collet in the 4 jaw. Top work.

Model Engineer Beam Engine - Reeves Kit

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand here's the video, which explains better than the post what I am trying to do. Need to up my game on making detailed posts as well as improving my machining.

Model Engineer Beam Engine - Reeves Kit

Next bit was simple enough really - touch off on the highest feature (having first measured heights of all the features to know what was to come off), fix the quill, touch off by raising the knee, establish the highest plane and raise the knee accordingly to clean off the other surfaces. One...

Model Engineer Beam Engine - Reeves Kit

Hehe - I see I've got a dimension snapped to the end of a center line rather than a hole center. A few things to check there before I cut anything! This is one of the pitfalls of redrawing stuff.

Model Engineer Beam Engine - Reeves Kit

Stumbling forward at a breakneck pace, I actually clamped the base to the mill table tonight. It is clamped on top of a sacrificial aluminium plate which has been skimmed flat on both sides. In order to get it lined up and ready I indicated the 4 red surfaces (edges) of the raised square, and...

Model Engineer Beam Engine - Reeves Kit

If there is a difference, I don't know what it is - and I don't think it matters a whole lot. Not nearly as much as actually making the engine. That's what matters. I just got finished re-dimensioning the plan for the base, so I'll be setting that up and going at it with reckless abandon soon...

Easy tool storage system for lathe splashbacks

It’s a lot of $$’s for sure. I had to save for quite a while before pulling the trigger myself. I was pleased to be able to see the castings in the flesh when buying.

Easy tool storage system for lathe splashbacks

I assumed you were asking about any special pricing I might have had as a result of buying at the show. Standard pricing is all on his website: https://www.martinmodel.com/products/mery-engine-casting-set It is a lovely engine - a very interesting crossover ftom steam design to IC design...

Easy tool storage system for lathe splashbacks

Oh, I'd prefer to keep that between Gary Martin and myself. What I will say is that his castings are absolutely superb and worth every penny he is asking - plus his drawings are some of the best I've seen supplied with an engine kit.

Model Engineer Beam Engine - Reeves Kit

I think I've put this in the wrong section. What's the difference between "Building them" and "showing them - work in progress"? I guess I don't mind either way - if this thread gets moved to the build logs step by step that is certainly just fine.

Model Engineer Beam Engine - Reeves Kit

Finally back to making an actual engine. The ME Beam is a very pretty engine when finished, with quite a lot going on. As a basis I am using the Reeves offering of castings, which I purchased about 2 years ago I think. My initial look over the castings says they are OK - not warped or twisted...

That's exactly what I'm trying to offer really. I think there might be some folks around who would like some bits and pieces modeled and drawn and have no way to get it done, so I'm trying to help out my mates in the model engineering / home fabrication / home machinist community. I suspect it's...
