Just joined. Have inherited an Emcomat 7. Has a few issues so seeking knowledge

Welcome. I don't know anything about an Emcomat 7 lathe, but I did inherit a Grizzly, and had to learn from scratch how to operate it, so I know the feeling. I am sure someone here can assist you. Good luck. Pat J .

    18 Cylinders Isotta Fraschini (straight six-cylinder x3 )

That engine has an incredible look and sound to it. Superb work, and great tenacity in getting everything worked out ! .

I found a scale steam locomotive group about an hour from my house, and went to visit them one weekend a few years ago. I arrived and met the president of the club. He said a few things about the club, and then proceeded to release the longest political screed I have ever heard, against his...

I think the member here is methuselah1. Seems like the crankcase would be relatively easy to cast in aluminum, with "relatively" being related to how familiar you are with metal casting, and how much foundry equipment you have. Welcome and good luck. .

    Bob Jorgensen's Model Engines, etc.

I am pretty sure I have all the Lindsay books that dad had, and I recall the hot air engine book, so I will look for that when I get home next time. .

So while your topic suggests you are asking a question, what you are really doing is making a statement that "this is the only way we can do things here". So not really a question then, and thus there is no question mark in the thread topic. With all due respect, I understand your opinion...

No, not contradictory at all. My work requires that I be able to do it, but I don't enjoy doing that low voltage stuff. Sort of like going to the dentist, knowing that I may experience extreme pain, but I still go because I want to have teeth. Not contradictory at all. Are you suggesting that...

Will do. I hope to be able to do that one day as part of creating a non-profit entity that promotes the hobby and offers limited numbers of casting kits. .

The Soule show had one day where schoolkids from the region would attend, and they were eager to look and learn new things. I have observed many/most modelers at NAMES and other shows posting signs around their engines which say "DO NOT TOUCH ! ". For museum-grade engines, obviously one does...

It should be noted that the world is full of annoying people. If you are unable to filter out what annoys you, then you will find yourself in a constant state of agitation, and you are letting annoying things totally control your life. Take control of your thoughts, and focus on what you are...

I am pretty sure that fan patent is the one dad used to make his fan hot air engine. I will have to dig out the Ericsson material that dad had, but as I recall, dad's Ericsson information came from a book that was published by Lindsay Books. In general, the bulk of dad's engine designs came...

    Bob Jorgensen's Model Engines, etc.

The Dake was scratch-built. I started to create drawings for dad's Dake model engine, but Dad was a freelancer, and his models were rough approximations of actual engines. I had information from a full sized Dake engine, and so I created 2D drawings that are very close to a scaled full size...

What you have to remember is that this information may be important to others, and you must realize that everyone is reading this information, and perhaps using it, on an open forum. That is why people read forums. If it overloads you, just skip to the next post, and let others read and use it. .

You could call it a "confrontation", or you could call it a "misunderstanding". I think it is important to explain things when things are misunderstood, since that seems to be the root of most confrontations, ie: a simple misunderstanding that could be talked-out. Sometimes it takes some...

We have some fundamental language translation/understanding problems here. You have modified my sentence to change its meaning completely, and you are missing the meaning totally. "I avoid DC electricity......" is not the same meaning as "DC electricity is the plague". It simply means "I avoid...

Thanks for the shout out Jason. Yep, I can read it. Very nice. I added a thread which points to where his engine photos are located. I could not recall if I had posted those photos here or not. https://www.homemodelenginemachinist.com/threads/bob-jorgensens-model-engines-etc.36047/#post-410087 .

    Bob Jorgensen's Model Engines, etc.

I have posted photos of my dad's model engines, two Roper steam bicycle replicas, and Stanley Locomobile replica, but they are buried in another thread. Dad was a prolific model engine builder, and a retired machinist/repair person, who also operated two full sized steam engines for the family...

The best cure for boredom is to build an engine and post the photos and build story here. I am counting down the days before I can fire up the furnace again. .

I think I fall squarely into the "dazed and confused" category. Going to the Speedy Metals website, and typing in "drill rod", you get the following: https://www.speedymetals.com/p-2973-78-rd-a-2-drill-rod.aspx and clicking on the material link, you get...
