The speakers have magnets. As they collect chips the volume goes down too. I just had to replace my phone as I couldn't hear it anymore and I couldn't get the chips off. Bob
A small piece of masking tape will collect a lot of those chips.

Keep you phone in a zip lock bag this keep you phone clean and most of the time you can still use your phone inside the bag
