Hello my latest build gauge 1 live steam chingford express. Runs like a Swiss clock with steam from my test boiler. But can’t get the meth burner to work longer than five minutes. Tried different wicks checked the meth is full! Must say this is the first time I’ve encountered such a problem. Anyone else had problems with a lbsc burner ?
Best regards Tony

could you give us some details on the burner and the firebox...
are they as per the LBSC's blue prints ?
I did a similar loco years ago, very modified, with a internally fired boiler, which runs very well.

Hello it’s as per lbsc drawing

Hello it as per lbsc drawings.

Its a pity because you did a lovely loco...

with this boiler, it seems to me that the venting is too restricted for a good combustion of the meths...
I think that after building up pressure with an auxiliary draught with an electric fan, the blower must remain open,
have a look at the burner with a mirror while it is burning, if the flame turns from blue to orange upon switching off the electric blower, "natural" draught by the exhaust is not enough for a good combustion.
it would be necessary at least to modify the exit of the burnt gases with a cone to increase the venturi effect in the exhaust.

Thanks for the information. The problem is the duration of the meth burner. Me thinks it maby because I used quite a heavy gauge of material. Once the burner is getting hot it’s evaporating the meths ! Will make another one with lighter gauge materials .
