Hi all. My name is Peter and I'm from London. I enjoy playing around with my machine tools as a change from my day job (or night job!) Which is playing trumpet with a jazz band. In a previous life I worked as a brass musical instrument repair tech, and for making and modifying trumpet mouthpieces I acquired a cowells lathe - a wonderful miniature machine. When the trumpet playing took over from the repairing the lathe just sat there for a few years before i stumbled Into a couple of forums, including this one, by accident. Since then i have made a couple of Tubal Cain engines, including the tiny Jenny Wren, several Elmer's engines, and have just completed Rudy Kouhoupt's horizontal mill engine. I did get a tiny Proxxon Mill to accompany the lathe which has recently been upgraded to a Cowell's vertical mill. Unfortunately i do not have a proper workshop, but do have a dedicated corner of the dining room and a very understanding wife. I would like to thank you all for the advice and inspiration over the last few years that you have unknowingly provided.
Pete

Hi. I've been away for work over the weekend. Home tomorrow, so I'll sort out a couple of pics then. Don't get too excited though. They are not in the class of some of the stuff I see on here. I get them running and then, rather than finish them nicely i move on to the next project

In response to the request above here are some photos of some of my creations. The rack of smaller engines are All from plans found online and range from wobblers to piston valve to rotary valves, all single acting. The horizontal engine is Rudy Kouhoupt's plans with a few modifications of my own. Myfirstdouble acting engine. The main issue is the flywheels. These were built up with steel rims and spokes cut from 3mm brass. Unfortunately when I silver soldered them together they appear to have warped. I've got wobbly flywheels. Just preparing for another try. Having said that it does run nicely, even on pure lung power through a bit of rubber tube. I did feel a bit smug about that 😉
Any advice on the flywheel problem would be much appreciated.
Happy weekend to all

Thanks. I'm not too sure of expectations. I've been lurking On the site for a while and am a bit in awe of some of the stuff you guys build

Welcome .
Great collection !
What is your next project ?

I've got the Kouhoupt platform engine underway, and the only engine I've started and not yet finished is the Gunarsson V4, so I'll have a tinker with that. Also, I'd like to put a bit of effort into prettifying something. They all run but aren't necessarily that decisive. Sounds like I've got a few lifetimes of learning in that little list.

Don't feel alone. I've been around for a while and doing some form of hobby / light machining since 1995 and I'm in awe of some of these folks and their projects. Nice thing is the amazing folks around here are every bit as friendly and helpful as everyone else!
Cheers,
Stan
